Track Records:

LMP1 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R8, Frank Biela - 1:48:029/123.300 mph (2002)

LMP2 Rand Racing Lola B2K/40 - 2:01:171 (2004)

GT1 Corvette Racing Corvette C5R, Ron Fellows - 1:57:052/113.796 mph (2004)

GT2 AJR Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Timo Bernhard - 2:04:876/106.727 mph (2004)

The #4 Vette was DQ'd last year, so the #3 car has the official record. I show a different car for LMP2, couldn't find the speed or driver though. The BAM! Porsche had the unofficial quick time at 2:04:169, but was also DQ'd. FWIW

Regarding the lmp2 best qualy time, it is very difficult to say, since back in 2003 the b01/60 were lmp675/lmp2's.

So here the best qualies in 2003:
- Dyson Lola Ex257 1:49.361 (now P1 car)
- Essex Racing Lola B2k/40 2:01.976 (best of today's P2 cars)

Just my 2 cents

I understand the Intersport B05/40 headed Tuesday LMP2 unofficial times and AJR (#23) headed GT2. Are there any comprehensive unofficial timing lists for these classes? I'd be particularly interested to see how TVR, Spyker and Panoz compare to the Porsche's.

Just think how quick it will be against restricted LMP900s at Le Mans and the LMES!

Also good for the prospects of more cars fighing for the overall win.

According to this press release Maserati is finding it hard to setup the car for the bumpy Sebring track and the drivers don't know the track very well. Some quotes
Quote:
Italians Andrea Bertolini, Fabio Babini and Fabrizio De Simone each have experience in the FIA GT series. In addition, De Simone raced at last year's Petit Le Mans and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and Babini placed third in the 2002 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring driving a Pirelli Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

"It's a quite different track compared to the ones we have in Europe," said De Simone. "The differences are mainly in the bumps and in the fast corners, especially Turn 1 and Turn 17. The different asphalts on this track…these are the main things...they are big differences."

"We have been testing since Monday until today," commented De Simone. "We are still working to get our setup for our car. We did all we could do."

"It's not easy to drive here for the cars are all different," said Babini. "It's not easy for the bumps on the tracks. But I'm excited to drive at Sebring. American racing is very spirited racing."

"Aston Martin is very fast and so is Corvette," said Bertolini. "I hope for the race that our car is very consistent. At the moment, the car is not easy because we don't have more time. We have a short time to practice."

The people from Larbre believe the Maserati is sandbagging. Jack Leconte believes the Maserati will only show its true pace during the race.

Bouchut is quite clear:
Quote:
« Ils font du cinéma, lance Christophe Bouchut. Je l'ai même vu se faire doubler par la Viper de Belloc. Ce n'est pas sérieux. Les Italiens cachent leur jeu. Peut-être pour convaincre la FIA de ne pas trop les pénaliser avant le départ. »

In theory they're supposed to be doing demonstration runs for IMSA as well, and there's supposed to be loads of telemetry available to the IMSA officials. If they're able to sandbag effectively, they'll not want to show their hand during the race either... Which means driving watching the mirrors.

Given previous performance of Prodrive-built 550s at Sebring, are Larbre sandbagging as well?

I am impressed with the new Lola that is one quick car straight out of the box. Saying that the C6 is pretty quick too.
