Akira san still races? Brilliant! The bloke was my hero when I got into world superbikes in the late 90's, I loved him battling on that Kawasaki. I still recall being very disappointed when his engine let go big style at the old Hockenheim back in 2000 (I think). So, is that his points tally or his age?

Wasn't it Crafar, in 97?

Crafr was not on a Kawasake in 2000, that was Akira, Crafar did ahve an engine let go twice, and then a mudguard came off while he was leading and he though the engine had blown.

Kwaks were always quick at Hockenheim, especially Jochen Schmods who always used to be fastest on the straight but couldnt lap the rest of the track fo toffee!

Does anyone know the reason for the BSB rule (was new for 2012 I think) which says bikes dropped/crashed etc in races cannot be picked up back again?

How many riders do we know who have crashed and tried to carry on with damaged bikes and ended up in a bad way? Probably next to none. Normally, if the bike is so badly thrashed, the rider knows it and walks away or even if they carry on in the heat of the moment, they realise the bike is toast so ride slowly into the pits. I think there were a few occasions in the supersport class where riders could have continued with perfectly (albeit scuffed) ok bikes but could not. It seems somewhat unnecessary. Does any other series employ this rule?

The reason was an early round of the Supersport in 2012, I think a lad dropped a Triumph, mkght have been Pekkanen, he dropped it, picked it up again and remounted, he didnt know the cases had split, so the thing was spewing oil everywhere.

Loads of people crashed and a few were badly hurt, so they made the decision. It does make sense, especially in the UK where it rains more and is therefore much harder to clear up, I think there were huge delays as a result f this, hours as it covered the whole track and the riders said no way are we riding.

Makes sense (as usual for Brits) lol

Dane Westby, who finished second in the 2012 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship will ride a GEICO sponsored Honda CBR600RR in 2013 - question is, will they field a Superbike aswell?

It is sad to see how far the AMA series has fallen in recent years ever since DMG took it over.

What is Blake Young & Tommy Hayden up to this year? Did Ben Bostrom retire?

Well done to Martin Cardenas, hopefully he'll take the fight all season long to Josh Hayes but unfortunatly, what a shadow of its former self it has become

...and thats not even starting on the Daytona 200
