Blancpain Sprint - Brands Hatch

Timetable released, very challenging with no lunch on either day.

Will still be going, but prepared for Long days.

Comments on timetable?

At least with the internet, nowadays you know what will be expected of you in advance. I can still remember when clubs used to feign surprise on the day with challenging timetables.

Anyway, I'm putting in some long hours this weekend in France before coming back for an easy weekend at the Brands Blancpain sprints. All voluntary, all my choice..

If anybody backs out for any reason, just remember to let Mildred know.

Down for both days. Haven't been to Brands for a few years.

Yes, timetable is "challenging" but given plenty of advance notice anyone who isn't prepared to do it has time to cancel.

Glad I've got a room for both nights. At least I should get a good night's sleep.

There is going to be lots of down time so I dont see a problem.
Also at Brands you know the latest you can finish is 18.30.

Agreed it is challenging but with the 30 min start procedure for each of the Blancpain races then it's quite likely that there will be opportunity for a sit down or a toilet break before green flag. If the event is well attended by marshals then there maybe the option to stand down for a while during the day too? Nice gesture by MSV to supply some lunch as well. Really looking forward to it

In reality though, in those 30 minutes the pitlane is open for 15 so there will have to be flag cover, an observer and a couple of incident marshals available. There's only 10 minutes from the pit lane closing until the green flag lap. Whatever, I've met damn few marshals in my time that would voluntarily take a standown when there are cars on track.

Challenging was the race meeting I did last weekend. On post at 7am, off post at 5 past midnight with a 7am start the following day. Blancpain will be a doodle in comparison.

Indeed, I use the Lowry school of doodling in my reports, matchstick cars & men...
But usually I prefer to dawdle.. It's a doddle.

Are flaggers' radios used only for receiving information, not reporting?

Tim
All will become clear either by briefing or notes issued

Usually the flag channel is used for RC to call things like reds, SC, blues possibly
The flag marshals usually only report yellow displayed/withdrawn

All other comms via usual means

Big thanks to the team on P9 over the weekend for their company and humour. Excellent job in bringing the cars off end of session and thanks to the drivers for mostly getting it right.

See folks around

Thanks Dave - as your co-flagee it was good to know that I didn't need to wave double yellows whilst pressing the Mic button on the flag radio at the same time. Any tips gratefully received...
Having been convinced by Post Chief Ian that it could be operated by clenching between the buttocks; I'm sure with a little adjustment it could, but I'm not sure how well we'd have been understood.
As a regular reader but very occasional poster it's always good to put a name to a Ten Tenthers face.

.
We worked out that the blue flagger was best with the radio as they'd not be flagging whilst most of the calls were needed. But that was after I was double yellow and had no way to press the button

Good weekend on post 15, old school flag point on the corner exit, mutual twitchy station - when the cars got squirrelly, so did we

We had two F4s visit over the weekend, almost carbon copy incidents, down to the drivers getting legs bashed together or against the tub and being in some discomfort - my racing chair is now for sale on ebay "as used by real racing drivers"

As a non-marshall (sorry, cluttering up your forum), did anyone have any insight in to what happened with the wave through under SC in the final Radical race? It seemed a bit of a cock up to say the least.

Starters are on different frequency to SC so instruction to wave through was not heard. When bunch of cars appeared at speed through Clearways, it was assumed SC In call had been missed. Although right under RC, radio reception in Start Box is not always clear there.
