Oulton Brew-up

Thanks to the marshals at Island on Saturday 2nd. I thought I was on fire, so boy was I glad to see you guys with extinguishers at the high port when I tumbled out of my Vitesse! In fact, a water connector to the rear radiataor had given way and it was steam, so no jokes about cups of tea, please?

John

PS Tiny niggle about the breakdown crew - why did they drop me and my car (and other people) in the old assembly area, then drive through the Paddock, right past my trailer, back to their post? It was a long needless push. J.

The old assembly area is actually Parc Ferme and the recovery guys were probably just following instructions from Race Control.

Either that, or they simply don't like you!!!!

John D, it's down to insurance - they're not covered after parc ferme, that's all.

Does anyone know why their policy doesn't cover the paddock, when it seeminly does for other crews at other circuits?

First, an apology for saying the Vitesse is weird - do you think that, given time, this is how the Vitesse would have naturally evolved?!
Secondly, another question. The sharp left turn into the tyre wall - was this caused by lack of adhesion, or hot water on the family jewels! Glad it was only a hose - looked rather smoky at first. (The gallop from Lakeside box to the car, with extinguisher, nearly killed me, but at least I don't need to worry about exercise for the rest of the year!).

John, Can we stop calling your car "the hearse" now and call it "the sauna" instead? (OK, so both nicknames are actually rather unfair!)

Rumble,
I don't mind weird as long as it means weird in a GOOD way! And hearse is my own fault.

There were 20-odd Vitesse estates made, by Park Royal the coach builders rather than the factory, but with their blessing and cooperation. But they were very expensive to make, as Triumph cooperation did not extend to supplying the cars as a kit of parts, but as built Vitesses and estate roofs, etc. - lots of hand work.
Mine wasn't one of the 20!

John

Problems with insurance cover. . .

"Why" I don't, but I can confirm from discussions with friends who provide recovery at another circuit, that there have been serious problems with the extent of the coverage provided by the MSA insurance for recovery activity.

It is not true to say that cover ends at parc ferme (at that circuit), the paddock is fine.

As Mark said, the recovery crews would initially have taken you to Parc Ferme because of Race Control instructions/standard practice. I'm sure that if a request had been made, assistance would have been cheerfully given after your release from PF to get you to your team/trailer.

Regards

Jim

As Jim says this is mainly done on instruction from Race Control. It is often the case that the recovery crews then have to be back on stand-by ASAP in case of an incident in the next session. Once there is then a break in proceedings they will happily help where possible.

I only mentioned this because it's what it says on a note at Oulton where the drivers sign on. In my innocence I believed it would be right?? You don't see too many cars being moved outside of parc ferme now and the recovery crews always seem happy to help so I don't believe it comes from them?

It is the line that is also given at new driver briefings, Mike. So what is the truth?
