Amidst the bad news, how sad is this one on Christmas eve... RIP Milt...

And my sympathy to Michael ; let's hope he'll get some cents on each "Speed Merchants" DVD we buy...

To clarify, I believe the DVD is "region zero" or compatible with all areas. The film is in NTSC, but my understanding is most PAL or SECAM DVD players can translate it.

Sadly, it's not true the other way - many NTSC machines can't read PAL - although mine always can, because I test them first before buying. No point in having a player that can't play In Car 956...

Has it been released on DVD yet?
Yes, Alex Reade sells the DVD and the book from his shop in London (link). Both are worth adding to your collection.

It probably could, but I suspect it might be too polished. Some of the charm of the original came in its less formal moments. You'd have to be careful the modern PR machine didn't get too involved too (that's not to say PR didn't exist in '72, just that it's more, well, all-encompassin now)!

Good point krt917. I was only watching an old Brunswick Film featuring the Grands Prix season 1975. Niki Lauda didn't once say thank you to FIAT, AGIP, Goodyear, Luca M. etc in an interview after he won the World Championship at Monza. He did mention the mechanics though and thanked them.

On the podium the drivers shook hands, slapped each other on the back, smiled and sprayed the champagne towards the fans.

How different it is to the stage managed fiasco we have today.
