How about the Van Hool VHM001 that Bernard de Dryver tried (and failed) to
qualify a few times. Does that still exist, is it still with the Bus company that made it?.

driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
highly likely that Mr Van Hool kept it as he has kept the sons race cars too

One off f2 cars.

No one has mentioned the Boxer which was actaully a winner in the hands of Brian Henton at Thruxton Easter 1975 (?). Another car to end it's life on the Hills with Max Harvey.

Was the Pilbeam an MP42? I thought it was a later car about MP 53. It was run for Patrick Neve in F2 in 1975 before he went into F1 with Frank Williams with a March 751 (761?) sporting Belle View sponsorship, and then Martyn Griffiths took it onto the Hills after he sold it's sister car to Roy Lane which is now owned by his son in law John Chalmers.

Driftwood. Where are my bits?

Steve. You are right. Got myself out of sync. I think Martyn sold the original MP40, which was new build, to Guyson and bought the ex Patrick Neve car, MP 42, and brought it on to the Hills but as an MP 40??

Dart 83

Anyone know what happened to the Dart 83 that made appearances in the 83 & 84 Australian Grand Prix (pre F1, the Calder era dominated by the RT4 Ralt).
Built in the UK driven in 83 by Brett Riley, in 84 Paul Radisich drove it when owned by Dave McMillan.

Two different cars, Cav
I can't answer your prime question - except that I think there was some sort of legal problem along Shadow/Arrows lines

I thought this thread was about 'one off' F2 cars! Why so many references to 'one of the .....'

I recall the Darts, set up in around 1982, and with some hype about being able to take on the Ralts in FAt, in the US/Downunder. Were they also adaptable for F3/FSV too? Anyone recal who was involved, IIRC there was some NZ/Oz involvement in the company, McMillan himself perhaps ?

Jleonard, your stuff on the Argo Atlantics is great. Where did you get the JM9 from in '82, I thought there were only 2 built, one for Goodwin Racing over here, and the other to Tyrrell Arnold in Ireland. Was yours one of these ?

On the Nugent car, wasn't this referred to as a JM5, not JM8. I recall it as looking similar to the 1980 F3 cars, the JM6s, which would make it a JM5, like the Rackham one. The JM8/9s were from the next year, 1981, and looked much different.

The JM11 is interesting, I knew there were JM10 F3s made, and JM12 FSVs, not aware that they did actually make the FAt version.

The New Zealander behind the concept was Allan Burrows, at the time (IIRC) a fabricator at Williams
From memory, the Darts were indeed on the pace with the RT4s but, as said elsewhere, they didn't last mong...
I have vague recollections of some US programme, but can't check the details right now

Dan,Jon Peterson arranged the sale of the 9 to us and the money was paid to Anglia Cars.I'm 90% sure it's the Arnold car. We got quite a few spares with the car as they were disassembling the F3 cars after they turned out to not to be very good. The 9 did look much different, Pininfarina's wind tunnel might have made the aero OK but the cars were very flexible. When we bought the JM5 it was the intention of my brother and I to inspect both the 5 and the Nugent JM8. When we left the US both cars were for sale, when we landed in the UK 12 hours later Nugent had taken a deposit on his car from an agent in the US. We also bought an Alan Smith engine from Andy Barton (iron man of the north?) on that trip.I still have the autosport ad listing the Nugent car as an 8,also I should have race results from here in the US with the car listed as an 8.The 5 and 8 Have different tubs the 8 being longer extending into the engine bay along with some other minor changes. The nose and upper bodywork are the same, the sidepods are different as well as most of the rear suspension. The 11 we had was built as an atlantic same bodywork as the F3 but with all the right brakes ,wheels and wings. It did use the front upright from the 1981 F3/atlantic. Back in about 1985 the 5,9and 11 all attended the same pro atlantic race (half the worlds population of ARGO atlantics?) Thanks for the intrest,Jo would be pleased. Is there an area for atlantics I don't want the F2 guys to be upset with us? J

J, again v interesting thanks, there are numerous Atlantic threads on here, tho' I don't think anyone'll mind us discussing the same on this one!

Despite what he and you say, I'm still confident the Nugent car was a JM5, and NOT an 8/9. Strange that you say the 5 and the 8 have similar noses and bodywork, as I recall the 1980 cars (JM5/6) as being very different from the 81 cars (JM8/9).

Where did the JM11 come from, was it new from the works, or had someone else had it before you?

DW, Argos as follows :

JM1 1977-78 F3 JM8 '81 F3
JM2 1978 FSV JM9 '81 FAt
JM3 '79 F3 JM10 '82 F3
JM4 '79 FSV JM11 '82 FAt
JM5 '79-80 FAt. JM12 '82 FSV
JM6 '80 F3 JM14 82-84 FF2000
JM7 '80 FSV

Pretty sure this is correct, but willing to be over-ruled !!
