You (obviously) know that when the Supercars are running on the big hill, you can hear them from the road into town...

But if I read the maps and mtpanorama's post correctly, the new track is on the other side of that current track/hill, not the town side. Isnt there a dump on the other side of the hill though? It'll be like being at the Creek with that 'unique' aroma...

The Creek smells like biscuits today. Wind must be flowing in a different direction.

I didn't think you could build on a tip for 30 years after the thing is closed/remediated?

Isn't the dump on the Esses/Dipper back side of the mountain. This proposal is talking about the big gully out behind Sulman Park I think.

Is the go-kart track still going in up the top as well?

Does the track really need to be International standards? Surely what Australia needs when it comes to permanent circuits is more Wakefield Parks and Winton's?

Even if they were building a new track in an effort to get something as big and wonderful as F1, just ask India, South Korea etc how that goes. New tracks built in the current economic climate should have Supercars and grass roots motorsports (which national SBK would fall under anyway) in mind when designed, nothing more.

If you look back at #17 you will see an explanation about the proposed Velocity Park - a major cornerstone of the whole project for the benefit of the city for years to come.

The track is permanent even though it is public roads- it would be the best kept bit of roadway in the state and will always be that way as the BRC understands the importance of the major financial contribution to the area through tourism etc that the whole place brings.
Many other rural councils would love to have such a facility that helps the area allyear long not only at certain periods. Name another rural city in Australia that is recognised around the world and benefits from the massive tourism $ that a local facility generates.

So why not spread the love to another regional town instead?

Yes, Bathurst benefits from having the track there and yes it would likely benefit even more so if the proposed venture went forward.

But what about towns with nothing, no Velocity Park, no track even? Doesn't really make sense to build another track at Bathurst to "help the local area" when some regions have no track at all.

Spread it round I say, give more people a practical way to get into motorsport and/or get out to see the Supercars. Not to mention the other benefits a track would bring to a regional town.

It would be nice to see more tracks in rural areas however the funding has to come from somewhere and in this case BRC is stumping up a lot of $ with the State Govt kicking the can as well.
The council has always seen the benefit of the iconic Mt Panorama track as a tourist attraction as well as a generator of much needed $ in the local economy and another motorsport development will also generate money and increase the tourism factor.

It all depends upon the wishes of the local community and the Council in any development that will bring tourists and help the coffers of the local businesses wherever that may be. It is like the Blue Mountains City Council deciding to develop another tourist/business attraction to add to their long list of attractions.

I find so many responses on here so funny. First of all someone is willing to build another motorsport facility in Australia. Stop whinging and embrace it.

Secondly to all those saying build it elsewhere, why would the Bathurst council look at doing that? There is nothing stopping others from doing the same but they aren't.

And yes the kart track will go ahead if the "local" folk stop playing silly games.

......and as far as the local council is concerned if it is ok by the local residents/ business operators and boosts further tourism with resultant exposure and $ spend then it is good governance - in this day and age a rare thing.

Sorry didn't realize Bathurst council were fully funding the project themselves without any NSW state government (taxpayer) money.

Obviously the BRC isn't going to be paying for all of it themselves. They are however putting up the cash to get it to that point. Who else is trying to build a circuit at the moment?

The one in the Shoalhaven has been scrapped I've heard and the Casa Park proposed circuit doesn't seem to have the financial backing of someone like the Bathurst Regional Council to get it to the next stage.

As fans of the sport we should be backing anyone willing to build something that anyone can use as opposed to another Street circuit.

If people think it won't be utilised you are kidding. There are so many Sydney people who travel to Wakefield Park for trackdays etc.

There has been so many complain or criticised the proposal without even reading the stories. Like the comments about buying all the properties on the existing circuit. The residents on the Mount are only part of the problem with noise or access.

If a motor sport industry park based around a circuit in a regional centre is a viable entity why hasn't anything like this ever been tried at Winton?
If it takes ratepayers/taxpayers money to prop it up then it isn't viable.
The amount of overflow in track day business from Eastern Creek/Wakefield Park is hardly sufficient to be a justification for a $50mill spend.

I applaud BRC efforts...but can't help feeling it is too grandiose and ambitious for a "regional centre"...

What race team or engineering outfit is going to set themselves up way out in the sticks...for what?...cheap rent?

Who cares when you are trying to attract the cream of the crop who want to live near family, friends and a little nite life and the vibe that only a city can offer etc

The BEST thing that BRC can do is keep improving the amenities around and in the track...how about the odd additional grand stand or three? and more race meetings per year?

Have they a strategic plan for the facility? Do they have short and long term goals for the facility?

It ain't rocket science!

Considering the track is currently hosting 4 of its 5 allowed events per year I can't see your idea going far.

As for building grandstands? Think of how much that would cost to build and how long it will take to recoup costs?

There is a reason why they are looking at building a 2nd circuit and it's as simple as the might dollars in return.
