Sad to hear that. I didn't know Barry very well, but I always assumed him to be one of the 'good guys'.

It seems the LM race director and colleagues didn't make fun with penalties this year. Bad situation when you are caught for a thing you mate did and not you. Dura lex sed lex!

RIP Barry. As well has his own racing successes, hundreds of ordinary club racers got to race at Spa thanks to him. Sad day.

Just heard on Twitter that Barry Sideways has passed away. He was a bit marmite for many folks but a lot wouldn't be racing without his influence and encouragement.

Barry befriended the Tyler family when we started in the BCV8 championship, helped us get going and more. A true clubman and friend to many. He will be missed, another huge hole in the motor sport fabric.

Done loads of races at Spa organised by Barry, sometimes I would just turn up in the hope I could get in and of course he sorted it. Rip Barry I know you always fancied Sue !!!!!!! Cheers

Here's a story to bore bauble- My Vovo FH has had an occasional and frustrating poor starting problem for over 12 months. A few attempts at finding the problem via the local servicing guys had come to no avail. Anyway, it suddenly started to get more frequent recently, so something had to be done. When the fly by wire throttle stopped flying last year, a guy came over from Gt Yarmouth, plugged in his laptop and diagnosed the problem as the pedal itself. Sorted. Although from an independent HGV w/shop, Volvo themselves use him to problem solve their trucks, so he is obviously switched on. We described the starting issue to him, and he suggested it was almost certainly a 'leaking injector sleeve', that is apparently a familiar fault on the engine. So tractor went over to the coast on Tuesday as it needs special tools to do the job, and sure enough they found one sleeve had been leaking- and of course it broke off in the head as they tried to withdraw it! Luckily they managed to get the broken bit out without removing the head, so truck is now back home and starting 'on the button' again. Phew!

Just shows that there are some clever people out there, and they don't necessarily work for main dealers or franchises!

The guy concerned went to LM24 with his son for the first time last weekend. Reckons it has completely spoiled them and no other races compare, so will definitely be going again....

Wow! What a fascinating story Mike, I read it right to the end marvelling at the elegant prose, and the intriguing story line, and the denoument was absolutely brilliant. Do let us have more of these poignant episodes from your exciting life.

Funny thing happened to me today . I fell asleep waiting to get on the freight train . Some bloke knocked on my window . Anyway got on the train and I was then ushered into a mini bus and we were all taken into another carriage. Thing is I'm thinking how do I find the wagon when we get off .My mate Mike said it was all to do with a truck catching fire a few years back . Good old mike he knows everything. 😀

Yippee, it worked!

I'll tell you another thing- the rail journey from Norwich to Gt Yarmouth is worth doing. Fantastic views of Berney Marshes and Breydon Water. Delays to due to swans and animals on the line are common, apparently....

They do go off. Remember that nasty-tasting cup of tea I made you at Donington? The teabags were mouldy when I looked at them closely.
