would this car be significant enough (and would the 350K be a reasonable-enough price) to warrant a spot with their collection?

Would this be earlier than the earliest car in the DJRTP museum? Maybe it could go home.

Didn't Morris alternate the two A9X hatches throughout the year?

And yep, the real A9X money would arguably be the 1979 Bathurst winner...

Brock held onto his 1979 A9X for quite a while, it could be seen in the Advantage Racing workshop on timber blocks.

Makes you wonder what sort of price he got for it?

It was raced by Morris in the 1979 ATCC, so the car can claim Championship heritage even if it wasn't the one he used at AIR to wrap up the title in 1979, Morris also used the car in his successful 1979 AMSCAR title win too

If my memory is correct it was for sale in Unique Cars around late 2001 for $110,000.
I recall showing the Mrs & asking if I could buy it ! Unfortunately we bought a house instead
It turned up at Bowdens not too long after I think.

The figure of $744K may in fact be correct - there were a number of fees on top of the $600K sell price - one of which was the buyers premium.

Some pondering thoughts that came to me after reading this weeks "Saturday Sleuthing" about the Paul Morris Diet Coke E30 M3 Evo from the 1993 ATCC

- Obviously the car has competed in Heritage Touring Cars in it's 1992 DTM specifications & livery...but presumebly it would not be able to race in it's 1993 ATCC specifications and Diet Coke livery in HTC... As ridiculous as this might sound, is there any scope in the regulations for the "Australia 5-Litre Touring Car Association" or the burgeoning historic class in the "Kuhmo Series" for the 1993-spec ATCC M3's to compete with the V8s?

- The 2.5ltr E36 bodied BMW that Paul Morris drove at the 1992 AGP. Obviously not a homologated Group A car, it AFAIK was entered in the Group A class for the 1992 AGP event (as opposed to the HRT VPs, Brock VP, Seton & DJR EB's that were in their own class that weekend)... does that technically make this car eligible to compete in that spec in HTC should the bodyshell be found & converted back?

Why would you want to race it with a smaller 2L engine anyway?

Yes.

I think it was a bit short sighted of CAMS not to allow them to run the E36 with the 2.5 litre for '93.

People race Corolla's in HTC against GTRs, so I don't see why, if someone owned one of the 1993 Diet Coke E30's and wanted to race them in the '93-spec with Diet Coke colours, they would be put off running with 5ltr cars.

I don't really see anyone wanting to do it, it is more a question of where do these cars fit into the historic scene should someone want to run one?

Yeah, as '93-spec cars, they fall into no-man's land.

Is there an appetite for an Australian historic Super Touring series? The British series seem like a lot of fun, and even includes 2001 spec ETCC (or was it called ESTC?) 156s that never raced in Britain.

Anyway, I think it is more appealing to run your E30 M3 in 2.5L Group A spec than 2.0L Super Tourer (or pre-Super Tourer) spec.

The cars they ran in '93 were grandfathered DTM cars, not Group A cars.

They're not even Super Tourers.

There's no real demand for a historic Super Touring class here, as there's hardly any cars left. There's maybe 8 known cars still here, but many have vanished into thin air. Of the 8, there's maybe 4 tops, that are in working order.

There is apparently a plan in the works for Super Tourers to be racing at Wakefield Park later this year. With some cars from NZ coming over, I have heard that organisers are expecting about 18-20 cars.
