I don't think he'll need to bring sponsorship money to the states. They need good drivers badly...

There is the difference between what would be good for Jos’ career and what is the thing that he wants to do. At the moment it seems he’s keeping focussed on F1, although I can’t see him coming back in a race seat. Not this year, because every team has a back up driver (in the case that something would go wrong), not next year(s) because potential Dutch sponsors won’t put their money on Jos but would go for other drivers who have a future ahead of them instead of behind them….

Around 1977, 1978, there were quite a lot of Dutch drivers with potential. Rothengatter (now Jos’ manager) was working his way up and eventually drove F2 and F1 after that. Lammers became European F3 champion and went on in F1. Arie Luyendijk wisely decided that to much Dutch talent around in Europe was not going to help him and went to the US. Not a bad decision, considering he won the Indy 500 twice. Could be a good thing for Jos to do too.

But Jos would still need sponsers money to get into CART and without that hes racing prospects are nil.
Jos is better off looking at a LeMans Campaign in europe i think. |

Jos would make a good endurance driver
(as would many others but they're temporarily dazzled by the bright lights of F1) |

I think he should drive in CART (or whatever name it will have in 2004). It would absolutely fit his style. Is he mentionaly ready to say goodbuye to F1 is the key question. I think not and therefore he will probably waiste another year waiting for another chance in F1 instead of doing what he wants to do basically: drive like hell.
I don't think endurance racing is his 'thing'. We're talking about a very agressive driver, a fast starter, a tough fighter, the kind that goes over the edge. That doesn't sound like an ideal endurance racer to me. It just isn't his thing. |

You need sponsorship to get a drive in ChampCars these days, and it seems like Jos has none. And Luyendyk isn't a relevant comparison because he went to the US at the start of his career and aimed at it all along. He ultiamtely took US citizenship as well. Dutch Chap is probably right about endurance racing not being ideal.
It seems like every Mianrdi thread on here turns into a Jos thread, argued out by the same fanatics - just thought I'd offer a realistic assessment. |

I wont start another thread about Jos for fear of being called a "fanatic" again, but here's something worth reading:
Jos and Jordan Jordan Grand Prix would like to put the record straight regarding the negotiations with Jos Verstappen. The team had excellent negotiations with Michel Perirdom of Trust and Harrie Mermanns of the Muermanns Group. However the hard work of these two loyal sponsors was undone by the intransigence of Huub Rothengatter, manager of Jos Verstappen, who at all time insisted on taking an exorbitant commission on sponsorship introduced to the team or an outrageous wage. At the same time all requests by the team for Verstappen to have a seat fitting and fitness assessment were rejected. It is very sad that the commitment of both Trust and Muermanns to providing the driver with an opportunity to stay in Formula 1 were disregarded by his agent. Eddie Jordan said: 'It was a very sad conclusion. We had a good faith agreement with the sponsors who acted positively at all times and it is not good for the sport for such valuable people to be treated this way by an agent.' source:http://www.f1jordan.com/Html/News/Ne...and_jordan.asp love, bridget |

http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=50255 This is an odd place to put a Jordan release in a Minardi thread (although it hasn't been abour Minardi for some time ) Last edited by Adam43; 16 Feb 2004 at 13:49. |
