Sorry to say my 216Gti is now north of the border, doomed to a life of sprints, hillclimbs and occasional sortie at Knockhill. But ever the optimist, Rover's new owner took the slicks as well as the wets

Hi Matt and Trevor nice to hear its gone to a good home but a shame its not going to be out in pre93 next year.Managed to finish 2nd in 1600 class in the 93s,after some cracking racing and only damaged it the once! Couldt quite match the pace of a vtec Civic in the dry...Im reshelling your old car Matt and making a lightweight one,got another on fleabay at the mo and another very ropey one to reshell or use for parts in the future. In 3 seasons the only breakdown has been a broken dizzy wire and the snetterton prang so pretty chuffed with reliability, and the control Toyo 888s lasted the season, although they are more interesting and slower than slicks!

Probably out in LMA in the Clio - there was some very good racing this year & rumours are, due to registration restrictions in next years Clio Cup, some owners of current shape Clio Cup cars will join us. Old shape vs new shape - a mouth watering prospect...

There is one in Scotland in storage that was raced by Angus Irvine, other than that mine is the only one left racing in the uk to my knowledge. |

I can stake a claim to another one of the ex super coupe CRX cars! I can't remember too much history(I purchased it from Dennis Bunning when he was series sponsor), but I understand it to be an original CRX Challenge car and I'm sure Brown Brothers or similar seems to ring a bell(the car is still original red not resprayed, and it is matching numbers so I guess that's probably true. I bought it some years ago with the intention of joining the series but other commitments meant it never happened and the car got mothballed in the garage on axle stands and never graced the series.
As for plans, a lack of a job currently precludes any likely outing for a while in any format, but I did toy with converting over to rallycross. However what other series would this be eligible for, just in case fiscal situation changes. Otherwise I might put it up for sale and convert the S3 RX7 I've also got to a track car and play on and 'as and when' basis considering the proximity of Cadwell Park to me |

There are a few ex-CRX challenge cars racing in various series - there's one in the BARC-SE TinTops, and there were a couple racing in the CSCC TinTops over the last few years too.

The CSCC would welcome competitors with former Super Coupe cars in to its "Tin Tops" series.
"Tin Tops" is a mini-enduro series for saloons/ hatchbacks up to 2 litres - 30 min practices and 40 min races for one or two drivers with a compulsory pit stop. See here for details:http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/Tin%20Tops.html The club is also considering allowing in small capacity Turbo/ Supercharged cars in to the Invitation Class for this year if there is enough interest. Cars such as the MG Metro Turbo, Fiats Uno and Punto Turbos, Renault 5 GT Turbo and the VW Polo G40 would all be welcome. If the idea is a success then the cars will probably be incorporated in to the main class structure for next year. This is a great value competitor focused series with good competition throughout the class structure. Entry fees are good (eg £270 at Snetterton & £295 at Brands for 70 mins track time) and competitors usually get allocated Pit Garages and the scrutineers come to you!!! Anyone interested should contact the club for details. |

Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of whether or not in the old days of the Rover 216GTi championship or SuperCoupe if anyone lowered the gearing by using parts from another Honda/Rover??
Iv heard that it can be done but wanna know which type to use if its possible... |

Any help would be appreciated thanks Al. Someone told me in the old days they used to fit something different but he didnt know what! I have a gearbox from 216GSi which should have a different final drive but really wanna know if it will fit before we pull my box out.
I only ever use 5th on the slowing down lap.... |

I seem to recollect him saying he had a Torsen diff or something in the turbo one he built. What about the Davis brothers at the MG centre at Heathrow, not sure they are still about but Darryl (?) bought a few Rover/MG type cars out with us in the past.

Iv posted for help on a couple of Rover forums. Hope I dont get the usual subwoofer/splitter/zorsty type replies though!!
Its a bit away from ordinary Rover stuff as its Honda gear so the Torsen stuffs out but thanks for the advice and Ill keep trying. |

This might not be much help I'm afraid but here goes anyway.
Does you're car have the Honda based PG1 gearbox? I have one of the Tomcat series race cars with the PG1 box and it is dismantled at the moment as I broke the diff. It has standard ratio 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears but lower 4th and 5th. I only found out because I am sad enough to count the teeth. The gears might have been specially made but look the same as the standard production ones so I have assumed that it might be a parts bin special. I can't tell you the ratios at the moment as I'm at work and if they are standard parts I do not know which gearbox they would have been sourced from. I have a PDF format manual for the PG1/PG2 gearbox and you are welcome to a copy of it. If you want one then please PM me. Andrew |

Thanks Andrew although mine is a full Honda box and is the other way round to yours some of the bits may be the same. What we propose to do is strip the GSi box which should have a 4.4 diff and then an old Gti box which someone has donated last night. Then Ill begin counting the teeth....Measuring shafts and generally being sad!!
