Lustigson should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I found another marvelous spot to build a circuit. I even included an oval. It's Nosehill Park... though I'm not sure it's available for construction.

It's actually a track I posted earlier, but it was a great fit. It could host F1, CART/IRL, etc.

BTW, its rotated 90 degrees to the left.

I posted the news about Montlhéry a couple of days ago. I came up with a first sketch. Tell me what you think.

Hamann, gr8 track, though, i think your tracks is a bit to much straights-sharp corners-straights-sharp corners, so i put in a little more variety...

Cut off the pitlane area, its fine as it is, and i dont wanna make the picture all funny...

It is a Gr8 Hamann!, made 1 real change to first corners.
I also lengthened the approach to the first hairpin and changed it to a opening 90 degree left.- (my favourite type of corner)
And 1 loosened the second of the double-apex corner at top.

I think thats weird, i feel whenever i change the picture horizontally & vertically it looks better on all of your tracks!?!

Hi guys. Here's a genuine challenge coming up.

According to this article a consortium is planning for a new Riverside Motorsports Park. They’ve acquired a 1.200 acre (what’s that in metric?) piece of land near Mercer, California. I’ve added an area map which features the town itself and the nearby Castle Airport/Airforce Base.

The new track is supposed to have “eight tracks to support virtually every type of world-class professional and amateur motorsports, including:
> 3.0-mile road course for sports cars, endurance and open-wheel racing
> 1/4-mile (5,000-foot total length) drag strip
> Integrated 1/3- and 1/2-mile, banked paved oval tracks for stock cars and sprint cars
> 3/8-mile dirt oval track for motorcycle, stock car, sprint and midget racing
> 3/4-mile karting courses (sprint and shifter kart)
> Motocross and BMX courses
> And, Northern California's first world-class oval speedway (length: 7/8-mile) for major stock car and open-wheel racing series”

I reckon we don’t necessarily need to design the stock/sprint car ovals nor the dirt track and bikes’ courses. The road course, speeday, drag strip and kart track would be nice. And wouldn’t it be cool if the new road circuit would be similar to the original?

Lastly, my area map isn’t very good, and a bit to large scale. The area looks almost flat according to this map. Maybe you’ve got a better map or even a sattelite image which shows the area better? Please post it, so that we may use it.

By the way: I pointed out the area which I think is the area it is... but I could be wrong.

Let's go to work then!

Also, searching for Mercer won't get you anywhere - the place is called Merced ; and I'm assuming it's 1200 acres, not 1.2!

Anyway, my version of Riverside resurrects most of the old Riverside - just modified the loop (bottom right), esses, and the wide hairpin before the main straight.
I've connected the road course to the oval via a tunnel under the stands so GPs can use the oval's facilities. Kart track is on the infield (pits by the small stand), and non-oval road course pits are on the bottom right. Paddock area is shared with the drag strip. It runs clockwise.
(And yes, that is a chicane-type thing just before the tunnel I didn't have enough run-off room to slow cars down with a straight corner!)

That all covers about half of the available area (green bit).

Looks good, Antro. What area did you use exactly? (The clean map would be handy.)

And it's 1,200 acres, indeed. I wrote it with a . in stead of a , -- sorry.

I've never done this, but I want to create a challenge. I read on http://www.eracksonline.co.uk that Pau wants to lure a CART race by adding an extention to their circuit. What I want you to do is to redesign the existing circuit any you would like to see the circuit. I am going to post three maps, the first of which is a map of the area. (Sorry for doing this in the middle of another challenge.)

The next map is of the circuit that CART could race on.

And finally, the track I created. BTW, tracks run clockwise. The Start/Finish line is on the red street after the trangular piece of track in the bottom right

Is there enough room for pit lane?

I would guess so. It's been used for Formula 3000 and Formula 3, including this year, so there must be a pit lane, it's just not visible. I got the map that they include with active circuits at http://www.racingcircuits.net. If you can find a better map of the area, go ahead and use it. The track is located in France if you didn't know.

That's the link.
I searched for Tahoe St, Merced, CA (gleaned off Lustig's pic). This will give several links to aerial photos and topo maps (no use since the site is dead flat). The circled site (which I used) is just to the north.

Antro, that T3 hairpin is ridiculous.

The existing Lycée hairpin is too tight already (it's like Loews at Monaco) and that one's tighter still. I don't think CART cars have enough lock to get round that, so deleting the Lycée hairpin would be my first priority.

No seriously guys, we're talking about a track only 7 or 8 metres wide, and an inside corner radius of less than a metre at the Lycée hairpin. I promise you, the cars would not get round it.

Hmm... somehow without a map underneath, a track design looks better. And some of it has to do with your design, P.
