Totally agree with you Emotive Images, maybe I sounded a bit too harsh, I've used Photoshop on a photo to remove some overhead wires and it improved the picture 100%.

Of course there's a skill in using Photoshop but I feel there's also a skill in taking a very good photo in the first place ( and I'm sure I didn't swear in my last post????)

Absolutely. I just wish that they would stop parking skips trackside ... I'm fed up seeing them in the frame.

Nicely caught flame. Was it pure fluke or had the Sierra done that for several laps?

I never seem to capture flames at the right moment.

Maisie,

Do you have a Sigma 170-500? Did you use it for the lovely Mini shots? What sort of shutter speeds were you achieving on such a rainy day?

It had been doing for several laps - it took 2 or 3 attemps to get the shot, but as you can see I got.

I had the same thing at Donington with the DTM, the Opels were all flaming nicely at Redgate so I fired off a whole load of film - I managed to get a couple of decent(for me) shots.

I've been trying all year at the rallycross to catch the flames from the back of Dorans RS200 but I've only managed twice - once was so blurred it was untrue and the second it was becuase the car was stationary and just burning off excess fuel!

Graham,

I have a Tamron 70-210 and usually just put the camera (Canon EOS 5000) onto the "sports mode" setting. I have to confess to not knowing much about the various settings on the camera - I usually just put it onto the sports setting, point and click My camera's not clever enough to tell me what speed I'm using. I ought to dig out the manual really. Luckily Minis usually oblige by doing something interesting in front of me

Maisie - sorry, mixed you up with someone else. I used to point and shoot and have about 100 film packets under my bed chocked to the gunwhales with **** pictures. Take up another subject and you'll learn more about your camera.

If your EOS has a setting called Tv (which is odd Canon speak for shutter priority mode), perhaps experiment for a quarter of your day at a circuit with it, setting speeds of between 1/1000th and 1/250 for head-on shots and 1/250 and 1/160th for panning shots. This gives a lot more control over your pictures and will teach you how shutter speeds can be used to create different effects, and how they relate to the other half of photography - the aperture.

You'll probably have noticed that to reveal some movement in cars or bikes, the body should be reasonably sharp and the wheels should be blurred. By using shutter priority mode you can set a shutter speed to produce this effect when you want, rather than hoping the camera will do it for you.

To advance your photography, taking control of your camera is a must. I did by shooting nature and landscape.

----------------

Cheery bye!

Hi All

I just discovered this thread, and there are some great pictures . I would like to add a couple of my own, taken with an Olympus 750uz digital camera. I am a complete beginner, but am reasonably pleased with my first attempts.

Hi All

Here is another pic:

Err, will add picture once I have figured out how to make it small enough, and still look ok

This is the best one I managed to get of Doran at the rally X back in March at Croft

Not sure whether the big round thing on the back is an exhaust or a jet propulsion unit

Cheers

Ian - nice shot! Have you taken any since it changed colour schemes? I took a couple at Brands but nothing I was really happy with.

I also believe that the quoted power output is wrong now as well - the car now reputedly has in excess of 800 bhp!!!

They were the last photos I got of the car, I was hoping to have seen it at the Grand Prix at Croft but after that got cancelled I might not get another chance to see it in anger again if he retires it.

Cheers
