Fascinating! That reminds me of how GEC in teh UK was a fairly profitable, stable, steady business. Then City Wideboys got in, took the cash in the bank, and sunk it into 'telecoms' ventures, which splashed, whilst selling off the core business. Yup, the business sank without trace in about 10 years.

http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3156049 has an earlier picture of the cut R18. Nice that Audi has released a higher quality picture.

Saw a comment on it on facebook where someone said it was unsportsman like of Audi for the 2013 champion thing and they hoped Audi would lose next year for it....man there's some nutters out there.

According to Audi Sport on Twitter, their 2013 motorsport programme should be unveiled tomorrow evening. So I suspect they should announce some driver squads tomorrow for the WEC and/or Le Mans too... and, crucially, how many cars for the WEC and Le Mans.

Also, a single-car entry for Sebring is still being considered.

Interesting to see Bonanomi get flicked. Or has he been poached? Didn't think he had a bad season given the limited opportunities.

Surprisingly Rockenfeller is out of the R18 lineup.
I wonder what the driver pairing will be. Who will drive together with McNish and Kristensen? Di Grassi drove with them in Sao Paulo, and Gene seems like a good replacement for Capello. Audi is sticking to the name R18 e-tron quattro, so the hybrid system will continue to drive the front axle. However, the system will be become more powerful. If it wasn't Audi - I'd say Di Grassi is bringing more money....but I doubt Audi choose drivers like that. (I'm obviously spending too much time on WRC forums... ) |

11 drivers for three seats for LM and two entries for the WEC. Someone was gonna get cut. Audi will probably have Rocky focus on DTM (we have to remember that Mike was DTM points leader or very near the top of the standings in '11 when he got injured at LM), while Marco will probably do GT racing.
With Toyota being stuck with entering two cars at LM (a three car effort could hurt their overall WEC budget next year), Audi only feel the need for a conventional three car effort next year. And of course, it would only make sense for Audi to pick their fastest drivers for LM. Marco seems to be an excellent test driver, but compared to the LM winners and the incumbent members of the dream team, he didn't really, sad to say, set the world on fire with his speed. Di Grassi, though, obviously impressed Audi in testing last year and with his run at Brazil, where he stayed out of trouble, and was def. fast (he set the race's fastest lap), and Gene has done an excellent job no matter where he has been in an LMP1 car. I can see why Audi would have Marco be a reserve driver again, mostly because of a lack of rides next year at LM, but I'm curious as to why Rocky got let go from the LM program except as a reserve, unless there were points raised that LM interfered the past couple of years ('11 especially with his injuries at LM), and Rocky made it a point that he wants to focus as much on DTM as he possibly can, and it was decided at LM took away from that. |

Jarvis did not impress either. I do not rate his performance much better than Bonanomi's.

Doesn't sound like the R18 will see much change outside according to the PR. Still think we'll see the 'double endplate' though. 3 cars for Spa as well, going to be a big field in P1. I'm interested to see the updates to the R8 lms ultra though.

Don't know if it counts, but here at Spain Gené promotes heavily the resistance and the 24h of Le Mans cause he actually acts as mix between Ferrari engineer and the most followed Journalist commenting F1 for Spanish TV, he often compares technollogically F1 with prototypes (with their ups of speed and downs on curve) and brings expectation when he cannot cover as a Journalist a F1 GP cause he is doing Le Mans or the LM test, remembers to the world the importance of the resistance, and dunno if that's why Gené cannot do the FULL wec, as he would lose many F1 events where he is the star presenter (Tought i think he would prefer doing the wec than commenting F1 races).

So if Audi rate it the same as you, then they'd be mad to drop Jarvis and keep Bonanomi (and it's fair to say they do, as that's what they've done). |

My point is that Rockenfeller would be a better choice given his massive experience.
