I have no problem with the BNT V8's or any of the teams and drivers who compete there, the problem I have is with TMC's very existence in their current form and the way they are involved in a way which seems to ooze nepotism... |

But the LS3 is a 6.2 litre 16 valve pushrod vs a 5.0 litre 32 valve OHC? How does that work?

I think Utes have an intake restrictor, effectively the same kind of kit as we used on Cadet karts years ago. They just dyno them to make sure they have all the same power output.
There isn't a lot of difference in horsepower between the two but there is a torque advantage to the LS3. It will depend on which engine spec they settle on. By that I mean the 5.0 Coyote in the 2012 Mustang has 10hp less than the 2011. If it's the Boss variant, it has about 30hp more than standard. So really, who knows for sure at this stage. Does anyone know roughly how much power they will aim for? Obviously they would want more than the V8 Utes or the current NZV8's. But torque is a big issue on our twisty circuits too.
I must say I can't understand why them good ole' boys at GM can't sit down and design a V8 engine with overhead cams and multiple valves - Ford has my respect for finally doing that. If you look at the current HSV vs Falcon GT wars, Ford have the edge in power with an engine that is a fair bit smaller now, which means they get to put the bigger numbers on the boots of their cars. All GM seem to do is keep increasing capacity... |

now they need to stick one of these in it
Ford and Holden fans will have plenty to cheer about with the announcement that the proven Ford Coyote and Chevy LS3 engines have been selected as the power plants for the new Ford and Holden NZV8 championship cars currently under construction. Announcing the engine choice, NZV8s chairman Ian (Inky) Tulloch said the two engines have been proved in the racing environment and are also currently used in the Ford Mustang and General Motors Chev Corvette. They are state of the art lightweight high performance race proven V8 engines with electronic fuel injection and will be dry sumped. Apart from the sump modification the engine packages will be ready to race. The Ford Coyote is a 5 litre quad cam unit while the Holden’s LS3 has a 6.2 litre displacement. Both are the latest model production engines that can produce in excess of 450 hp. With electronic engine management, parity can be achieved to ensure close, exciting racing. “We delayed announcing our engine selection until testing of the new Ford Coyote engine in the Australian V8 Utes proved its performance and reliability. We are now satisfied that this engine will be ideal for the new generation Ford V8. The LS3 needed no further proof of performance. “Testing of the prototype new generation space frame NZV8 with the existing engine and transmission on South Island circuits is showing we have an excellent chassis and race package that will perfectly compliment the new Ford and Holden engines,” Inky said |

Me understanding is that 'way back when', the individual franchisee's paid real cash money and TMC matched that with 'value in kind'. i.e. No money - just the deals they could bring to the table. That situation worked well enough for long enough. Over the last few years the situation had been growing increasingly tense with growing competitor dissatisfaction. TMC terminated their shareholding by accident (read incompetance by a little man with long hair) - much to their dismay. The people who have gone to form ST have done it all in the open really. And in that situation - Either you're with them or agin them... Its too late for reconcilliation now so let the devil take the hindmost. Back to my original point tho - can anyone sketch the whole story from whoa to go? I think it would explain a lot. |
