Back in the late eighties, a friend of mine worked at an Austin Rover dealership. (Were they called Austin Rover then??)
As a bit of an out of hours project, the workshop guys took a wedgewood blue Mini City, added a set of Minilites, some suspension and shoe-horned an MG Metro Turbo engine into it. Naturally, they left the "City" badges where they were... |

Yes, but I have a 2.0 turbo for the monster bhp factor, and I wouldn't be buiding the 1.3 for speed - more for noveltly

I've got an XTR2 (road legal).
Not bad but no doubt that the best trackday car (and my next one!) today is still the SR3. Some camera-car of my trackdays with teh westfield XTR2 could be seen here: http://www.mytrackday.com clicking on the camera-car section and scrolling to choose the event. ciao ft |

Hi Everyone.
First time here but can't help noticing that everyone seems to be missing the car that provides the most fun per pound(£) spent, the Golf GTi. You can buy a cheap car for £500 and without spending too much you can soon be found leaving behind much more expensive cars on your local track. |

Welcome to the forum!
Yes, the Golf is the Daddy of hot hatches (literally!) and looks as good as it performs. I'd have one, but at 18, the insurance companies don't like me! |

Why not something like an old Datsun 1600, RX series Mazda or an old Corolla. Heaps of bits around, competition heritage, eligable for historic reg in Victoria. Not the fastest vegicles out there but they are fun to drive and can be cheap.

Not the most popular car choice here in the UK so would be extremely lucky to find any spares. Whereas the Golf could be described as Dogs**t, i.e. can be found on everyones doorstep!

I run a Focus RS day to day and out on the track it is an absolute bullet given what it is. Its obviously left for dead by my R400 but believe me- given the fact its a 'proper' car, for 20 grand its awesome! As for the R400- WAHEY!!!!

I'd like someone to build a Mini with one of these rev-happy bike engines.....if it hasn't already been done.

Nice!
I'd like one with the engine up front though, and totally standard looking - the greatest trackday sleeper if ever! |
