winnie has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
John Hay had a turbo bdg mk3 escort. He sold it to richard moroney who used it for a while and then had jomin re-build the engine into a n/a version, which was put into the mk5 euro2000 escort that gartrac built him. Would like to know where the mk5 escort is though.

I thought that john hay may have had somethink to do with the croydon oval track.

Think I might have a few somewhere- I know he was racing the Escort when I first started watching rallycross at Lydden in 1989. I'll see what I can find

Did not remember the name but now I know the time he competed I’ve found in my files:

1990 British RX GP Brands Hatch – No 71, John Hay, Ford Escort Mk3, 47th overall after qualification

Think he ran as 71 all the time

Car was a Gartrac arched Mk3 a bit like Bob Smiths, used Minilites and was a two tone metallic blue I think.

Don’t think the man in the white 911 is John Smith as John took over the original Xtrac XR3 from Martin Schanche by the end of 1986. BTW, John and Jeeta are living at Kissimmee in Florida nowadays, just a few minutes drive from Disney World…

I am thinking it might be the first round of the British Championship in eitehr 86 or 87, coz later on that year Gibbo rolled the Porsche at Lydden.

Eietrh that or a TVS round, its a Formula A race coz all the cars in it are "supercars"

Could teh 911 be Sean McAdden? Or mayeb Dennis Atkinson, but I seem to remember Dennis's car being blue, red and yellow.

Car has John Smith's spoiler on the back?

I reckon its early 86 then.

It's John Smith's Porker in the photo alright;

As for the year, i took this pic of Rob Gibbson's (ex maybe?) 911 at Croft in around 1989;

Yer definatley right about Denis Atkinson's colours too, got a pic of his Porsche and a good one of Gibbo's from Croft if i can find them. This head cold isn't helping...

If the pic is from 1985 or 1986 it could be John Smith of course. He used to drive a Porsche 911 SC 4x4 in those years. I understood further up that Hay drove his Mk3 in the late 1980s/early 1990s. However, did John 'Figaro' Clark not also drive a blue & white 911 in the mid 1980s?

Here's the pic i was looking for: Rob Gibbson is listed in al the programme's as driving a 6R4, the only Formula A Porsche mentioned in any of them is driven by Dave Phillipson. Don't recall seeing Rob drive the Metro, could he have used this as a back-up car?

And, as promised, here's Dennis Atkinsons 911. Nearley as dirty as my car!

TinCorna that is the Porsche of Dave Phillipson, he bought the car from Gibbo and also later on painted it white, hence the number 139. Got in a Superfinal in eitehr 90 or 91 with it white.

Think he was Fiesta man before that and also I think at the 87 Inter Nations he bought that Nissan Sunny 16v thing that Wolfgang Schrader used?? Tried it in Formula B but quickly realsied it was not quick enough

Sad bugger me!

I remember Atkinsons Porsche, baslting away from ground mounted camera on Rallycross GP footage! In the pic it still has GP number stickers!

As for John Smith, I reckon the pic is from BRDA round 1 or a TVS round in 86. Its definately Brands.

As for Mr Hay, I ahve him in results from 86/87 so I might be out Eddi!! And John Clark yes, as did many. Think he also went on to drive a BMW M3 in BTCC!!

Ah, that makes sense. First thing that has in the last week or two! I've just found a (blurry) shot of the car painted white, complete with number 139 on the door but i never made the connection before...

Talking of Warwick Barnes, cna anyone remember the Quaife Sierra he drove in about 91 or 92?

Was BDT powered I think, not sure he did many meetings in it but was painted the same as Mike's Spooner Escort

Ok Rod, so help me out here, was that the car that Mark Rennison drove a few times?? Not sure who he drove it with.

And cant remember much about Warwick beforehand, never saw Chevettes, I didnt come into the sport til 86! Not sure Mick ever drove the Sierra, he had a Mk3 Escort with a BDT in it, then teh Spooner car, then Thunders and the Quaife GT car.
