Interesting with regards Jenson.
I found him preferable to James Allen, but that doesn't take much, with the added benefit that he took time away from James to talk garbage. I didn't, however, find Button desperately insightful. It seemed to me he just kind of repeated what had just been said on a fair number of occasions. With regards the the rapport between Martin and Jenson, I totally agree: they were clearly on the same track, with little jokes between themselves periodically. Give me Jenson over James any day of the week, that stands to reason. |

What I find annoying are the ultra slow-moes and the constant camera switches to the pit crews for their reactions. Could they not do this with a' picture in picture' format which does not intefere with what's going on trackside?

Working in the radio industry I have some idea how such decisions are reached, and 99 times out of 100 football would be given priority in that way. Motor-racing as a sport doesn't work that well on radio - and it would be taken into consideration that the football wasn't on terrestrial TV and the F1 was. I know F1 fans always think we're discriminated against in favour of football, but that's life! |

Incidentally, the Scottish football title was going to Celtic with 3 minutes to go, until they conceded 2 goals agaisnt Motherwell to hand the titles to their arch-rivals Rangers. The BBC leaving Socttish football fans without Sky with no coverage whatsoever of that would've been far worse than not backing up ITV's F1 coverage (from a commercial eprspective the BBC are just helping ITV viewer-wise by giving them a chance to watch F1 without James Allen)

I couldn't give a hoot about football, let alone Scottish football, but clearly that was more of a priority for 'normal' radio. It shows the beeb do provide the correct service to the listeners and also have invested to allow an alternative to broadcast the GP as well.

I do not think there was anything at all unreasonable about the BBC giving those matches priority.
Totally reasonable. |

On a slightly different note, did anyone else get really ****ed off with those Bridgestone Ads.
Why didn't they put them on when they were actually winning races? |

Yes I too must congratulate ITV on the superb job they did on their coverage of the Monaco GP. The last 20 laps uninterupted really added to the action. The rest of their coverage was very good too.
I would like to say though that seen as myself and many others on here were very quick to bombard ITV and various others with complaints after that awful decision in San Marino. Maybe we shold be just as quick to send them our plaudits after Monaco, I haven't read of anyone doing so yet. Maybe with this show of gratitude it may give them the incentive to carry on in such a manner in the future rather than slowly return back to their old ways as I think Mr V commented on earlier. I for one have an e-mail winging it's way to them now. |

They worked very well together Brundle and Button yes, a good combination of insightful summarisers./analysers.
But we need a commentator proper as well though? A Murray Walker/Ben Edwards type. I can't see Martin becoming one of those types of commentators! Jenson the same. |

Perhaps too many ads early on this time! I know it is difficult, but there was much time during the middle part that would have done for ads. I accept I am nit-picking a little, so take the post as it is meant to be taken - a small point.

The race went ion longer than expected thanks to the aborted start, and they did discuss the race for a few minutes both in the commentary and the interviews. The highlights show is there to provide extended discussion outside of prime-time, once things have been analysed, precise causes investigated, interviews saught once the drivers have calmed down, and a much better overall coverage can be given.

A network agreement with Scottish tv and Grampian tv to finish by 3pm, so as not to delay the start of their live football match. Bear in mind the Grand Prix itself overran by a few minutes thanks to the start being aborted. |

We missed almost all of the action on Speed Channel here in the States, due to commercial breaks. I know its part of race broadcasting, but today was the worst I've ever seen it.
They did however stay over their time allotment for highlights though, so that was good... |

American TV in general is terrible for frequency, total and duration of ad breaks.

But what about the rest of the Independant TV companies? Though i'd much rather see Steve Irwin saying "Crikey" that listening to Fernando, Nick and Rubens |

ITV has to schedule most of its output as a network - although in reality these days all the English regions are owned by ITV plc, so there's very rarely differing schedules. However, there was never any prospect of the Grand Prix coverage going beyond 3pm today, unless the race itself had been red flagged then dramatically over-ran. |

Well looking ahead to Canada, I see we have the usual farce of qualifying being delayed coverage.
I mean couldn't they show it on another channel? ITV2 or ITV3 perhaps? Whoops, sorry, I forgot. ITV don't own their own channels. Makes sense really. |

They do own their own channels, knowlesy.
It's just that those channels don't have the budget to show F1. |

I was seriously disappointed by ITV cutting the transmission short. I looked forward to what the finishers had to say. I thought it would have been interesting to know what the McLaren guys had to say. I'd have liked to have heard from DC and the lads from Milton Keynes about their wonderful run;from Nick on his race ... and we get some idiot jumping around on alligators ... oh please. ITV must do better.
