IMO Both races were great, and of course the victory for Zanardi was beautiful and well deserved! It was nice to see the people of other teams waving at him when he drove to his pits.

The performance of the new Leon is also promissing for next races and season. The Alfa Romeo's were very disapointing this race.

According Mario Theissen WTCC is in talks with 1 or 2 extra manufacturers (Toyota (or Lexus), Mazda?) for next season.

Oh yes, Toyota has been "talking about" all sorts of championships since Gp.C died - I'll believe it when I see the first Toyota on the grid. As for Mazda, we already have Ford in the series, that's the same group.

Was this really the first win for BMW Italy-Spain??

Agree, first see, then believe. Sometimes dreaming is nice.

You are saying Ford is in the series, but before this weekend their participation was a joke. This weekend on their home circuit they did very well. But I am afraid they are at the back of the grid again next race.

Don't know.

During the DTM race at German TV Klaus Ludwig was very negative about WTCC and Chevrolet.

At the DTM race at Nurburgring a journalist asked Norbert Haug if they are interested in the WTCC. Haug said: "We are only doing autosport with real race cars".

Today WTCC was for the first time live broadcasted on German TV channel ZDF. After the 1st race the commentator said there were 3 German drivers in top 5, something not every championship could say. It was clear he meant DTM.

I got the feeling this was the start of a DTM/German channel ARD vs WTCC/German channel ZDF war.

Mercedes-Benz has been out of racing for several years, ever since Haug became motor"sports" chief to be exact. I would llike to see Merc lose a few races in WTCC (and a Norbert vs. Monica spitting match on pitlane! ) but that's another story...

Good. The German public should get used to the thought of life after DTM.

Yes, it´s the first win for Ravaglia motorsport in ETCC/WTCC with S2000 specs. They won races in ETCC 2001 with Peter Kox and Super production cars anyway.

Rest assured that the FIA GT marketing people had nothing to do with that!! I believe some manufacturers gave out tickets to their employees, Chevy among them. But hey, as long as it gets bums on seats it can't be a bad thing.

This may not be quite a fair assessment but it seems to me the East German race fans are still more open to "non-F1" racing than the West Germans. For instance, motorcycle racing still has a good fan base in the East.

(And the Ring 24 isn't quite as popular with the mainstream fans as the attendance figures make it look, many just come there for the partying.)
