SilentVoice81 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Salo definitely showed he belonged in F1 this year; a fine job in most of the races and certainly quicker than McNish in many of the races and qualifying. I hope Salo gets a race seat next season and he shouldn't be too pricey to pick up.

Good to see Panis go to a team that should be on he way up within the next 3 years.

I'm not surprised Da Matta is pesimistic about Toyota, but I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota dont get him they get Webber instead, and Minardi get Toyota engines(this years model). I have a feeling Jaguar and Ford will baulk at Stoddart trying to leverage Cosworth's out of a driver transfer, unless they badge them as Volvo.

Nah surely the trap won't be in a Toyota next year, all indications are it'll be a Brazilian.

Oh not Verstappen AGAIN... he's the new Luca Badoer... keeps popping up every couple of years...

I used to be a massive Salo fan back in the Tyrrell days, but at Sauber and Toyota he's been distinctly lacklustre. However, his performances at Ferrari were superb - stop knocking him.

Other than at Hockenheim, when he nearly won AFTER Hakkinen crashed, he was a poor qualifier, and ddin't nail enough points. He has always been lackluster. Plus, his ego is far greater than his talent. I don't mind drivers believing in themselves, but boasts unsupported by results ring hollow.

Can see why Toyota have gone for Panis, he has good Honda links. But I can't undersatnd why replace Salo?
Mcnish yes, but unless they sign a star driver or a driver with fierce potenial (Cue Webber/Da Matta rumours) i don't see the logic in giving Salo the boot, especially for Verstappen.

Agreed, i've never been one of Salo's greatest fans, but i do believe that he's better than Verstappen, If Toyota are going to replace Salo, get in a charger, not someone who's only good on a really light fuel load!

Im never that sure what ive thought of Salo ...he is good , but how good i dont know.......Verstappen ???...well i think weve all been there before .

Toyota would be better off with Pizzonia i think , even though he is having a fairly poor year in F3000 , he at least knows about F1 cars and has got some potential for the futute.....better still ...webber !

According to Radio Suomi interview, Salo will end his F1-career after this season. He said he was going to do this after next season anyway, and that he feels reliefed to retire, after a difficult year at Toyota.

There is nothing to gain for Mika in F1. More drivers* should stand in front of the mirror, ask themselves if they need to be in F1, and than answer that with a clear: no

(*either being sidelined or active)

I'm soooooooo glad to see Salo get kicked out. He doesn't deserve an F1 seat because he can't drive. He showed that in 1999, while driving a Ferrari.

Glad to hear he is going to retire, so he won't keep spoiling my F1 races.

Jos acting like he finds that hugely funny

You haven't been listening Peter, Jos does rarely writes of a car, most mayor crashes in his career have been caused by mechanical problems(3 times a broken suspension in 96(Hungaroring,Magny Cours and Spa),hanging throttle in Magny Cours 97,brakes in Canada 2000,suspension at the Nurburgring in 2000, the dif at Monaco in 2000)
