I've got really confused with the clocks change or something, Autosport said the race started at 6, however I forwarded my clock to 6 but the race hasn't started yet.

It looks like Ricciardo will be starting from pit road, as his car is stuck in 6th gear. He hasn't had a good weekend so far.

One extra formation lap, not too sure why.

A clean start but Magnussen and Ericsson go off together at Turn 3.

Ricciardo retired with some problem. As usual Ten were in an ad break so I missed what happened.

The car died on Ricciardo as he turned through turn 3. Bad luck and caps a bad weekend.

Bottas catching Hamilton hand over fist. Should Mercedes order Hamilton to move out of the way?

Both Haas cars out as the suspension gives out on Magnussen's car. That's going to put a crimp on my fantasy team's result.

Congrats to Vettel and Ferrari. I had a feeling they might do it. The both car and driver just seemed to have the edge over Hamilton and Mercedes from the off.

It does bode well for Ferrari, but let's not forget Kimi was quite a distance back. The Ferrari in his hands was not much different to 2016. Vettel made the difference. Not sure how much behind he was because F1 somehow f-ked the timing and barely showed any on screen and their website live timing didn't seem to work either. But can Vettel continue to make the difference at each race?
Also even though he was slightly quicker, Merc threw this away by pitting early and getting stuck in traffic. If Hamilton and Vettel pitted together, the result would have been Vettel following Hamilton to the flag 1.5-2secs behind. Good to see Ocon in points. Good to see Giovinazzi 12th, that might hold up as Saubers best finish for a while this season. Good to see some colour in some of the cars. Most of them looked good except maybe Sauber and Haas. |

Mclaren will be quite pleased, both cars nearly made it to the finish, and Alonso's retirement (from the points) was due to contact, not a technical issue. much improved result from testing.

Congrats to Ferrari. I'm not sure they can take it to Mercedes on pace throughout this season, but Mercedes brought Hamilton in too early there. Why did they feed him out into that traffic? Was he really losing significant enough pace on the tyres at that point?

Enjoyed the racing, but C10 coverage, below par, and bringing in every has been and failed tv show as celebrities.
Really, who cares about google box, Biggest Loser etc etc Did not show any podiums for supports, no V8 awards, just some dumb asses being like event fairies hovering around , who cares if you are wearing clothes from some fashion house. It's motorsport not trundling out losers of the TV world, and crap models who haven't got a gig Please get rid of the PC element, and get back to motorsport |

Then later complaining about tyres again, but he basically kept up with Vettel throughout most of the second half. Seb only dropped him a couple more seconds after Verstappen pitted, so his pace wasn't that bad considering older tyres. Bottas certainly stepped up the pace but couldn't get closer than a couple of secs. Maybe the team told him to slow down, though it certainly wasn't broadcast. But even if he was told to slow down, wouldn't he have at least got a bit closer to show he had the pace to pass? Then Lewis started complaining about engine cutting out. C'mon, if it was truly cutting out he'd be losing a bit more time that he was! I don't mean to take a dig at Hamilton, but when things aren't going right, he sure does moan about it. I didn't hear Bottas on the radio moaning at all. |

By the way how exciting is it having all these new guys in the field that are there on merit (not money)... Ocon, Vandoorne, Magnussen, Werhlein, Palmer, Giovinazzi if they replace Ericsson (wishful thinking but you never know for 2018). All in close teams, it's going to be fun watching them all this year, and wonder if one of them will be a future champion. Even Sainz Jr and Verstappen are fairly new and raced some of those guys in the juniors. Stroll is the only guy that hasn't had a very good showing so far, but early days. It's almost worth a new thread to discuss their performances at each race.

2) it appears bottas wasn't having problems so no need to complain 3) we didn't hear anything from bottas during the race...could just be the directors that aren't giving us the replays 4) no complaints from Hamilton after the race...relatively happy and congratulating everyone 5) don't all drivers complain...or have you missed vettel and alonso the last couple of years? |

Hamilton was informing his team that his rear tyres weren't very good, because they WEREN'T very good. As was confirmed by Lauda post race. Is that called "complaining" is it?? Didn't hear Lewis "complaining" about the engine cutting out. I did however, hear Lewis "informing" the team that his radio was cutting in and out. The team even had the pit board out for LH at one stage. Guess you don't really see these things when viewed with one eye. How do you know Bottas wasn't moaning on the radio?? Did you have access to the F1 radio broadcasts from Bottas to his team? On the race, well done to Ferrari and Vettel on the win. Good to see another team up front. And very much welcomed by Lewis and Mercedes by all reports. Bad luck for Ricciardo. A weekend to forget. Some conspiracy theories going round saying LH's strange call to pit was to spice up the race. It wasn't a team call. As confirmed by Mercedes, it was 100% LH's call to pit on that lap. Conspiracies about LH wanting a fight up front to boost up F1's profile, and give the fans a fight they've been waiting for along time. Didn't exactly go to plan, but it did give F1 a boost with a Ferrari win. Read what you want into that. |

If I may add here that it has not been unusual for Hamilton to "give feedback" to his team about the condition of his tyres, whilst his team-mate has had no problem. It seems to suggest that he is not very good at preserving his tyres, much in the same way that he hasn't, in the past, spent much time with his engineers to understand his car.
It could also be that he is missing the opportunity this season to copy Rosberg's setting up of his car. |

Vettel was happily dominating in the V8 days when you could plant your foot and the car just stuck (relatively speaking). He struggled when the cars became more throttle sensitive. Now they have big fat rear tyres, maybe that's played to Vettels strengths again - maybe now it's easier to apply the throttle, which something that seemed to suit Vettel.
Bottas only a couple of seconds behind Lewis eh. That's interesting. |

it was interesting.
sounds like both merc drivers had issues with the ultra softs during their respective first stints but VB was able to get more laps out of them. actually would have liked to see VB take that lap advantage and try the super softs. |
