So with Kirchofer and Celis Jr at AVF i guess that we have already our first line-up for 2016.

If the field has comparable quality to one of these tests, i guess that we might be on for an Orudhzev vs Kirchofer battle.

I think Aitken and Deletraz, should they make the move, could cause a few troubles for the favourites.

More news today that DAMS' entry has been taken over by GT Open team Teo MartÃ*n Motorsport. A Spanish team will surely be popular with RPM!

Shades of the series going back to its 2002 roots when there were all the Spanish teams like Gabord, Racing Engineering, Campos & Repsol Meycom.

Did you really mean Arden? Aitken is Eurocup & Alps champ, Jörg was a close third in Eurocup, while Orudzhev had a very impressive rookie campaign.

I hope we'll ultimately see more of their ilk than the likes of Raghunathan... out of his depth in F3, so obviously he's ready for F3.5 V8...

Ah, thought it must be a typo Agreed. Atoev seems to have promise but far too early to be thinking of this series!

Wow, the good news is coming thick and fast at the moment! Another new team for 2016 announced in the form of Euroformula Open regulars RP Motorsport:

It is quite a logical thing to happen.

F3.5 V8 will become the pinnacle of GT Sport organisation's meeting.

Anyone fancy RPM taking Vitor Baptista with them? He's young and fast, what the series is looking for...

...this GT Open package is going to be quite something next season...

Parente and Watson? Wow you're lacking some imagination there...

Calado will not give up his factory Ferrari GT ride just to be back in single-seaters.

I highly doubt Fioravanti will make the step up, Walilko is a bit more realistic if you really have to pick from their current EF Open roster... Stuvik has a successful past with them though, I imagine they wouldn't mind joining forces again.

Daruvala will be going for the Eurocup title, this is just a test for him. Same for Russell apparently (as in he's just exploring his options right now).

For what it's worth, Yu Kanamaru and Egor Orudzhev topped the two sessions on the opening day of post-season testing, with Kanamaru's morning time (1:28.067) being fastest overall. I think they actually managed to catch a break in the weather and had no rain at all yesterday.

BTW, I think we're in need of a thread title change... I think this new name 'Formula 3.5 V8' is kinda cool actually

it's not massively catchy, and the 3.5 is as inaccurate as it has been in the new car era but points to them for maintaining the identity

Well, had Vaxiviere set his pacesetting time today in either qualifying session in 2014, he would have claimed pole position...

Alfonso Celis Jr returns with AVF for 2016. Perhaps Kirchhofer with him, perhaps not. He improved from journeyman to credible over the course of last season and I can see him be ugraded to decent by the end of 2016!

Cells is a developing driver in my eyes, not a journeyman. There were real flashes of promise this season.

Kirchhöfer is not going to drive in Formula 3.5 V8. He just tested there because of the long GP3 brake.

Interesting.

He is the only in the gp3 field to feel that need.

Already had a strange behaviour in F3, doing pre season to test and then pull out because he felt it would be too difficult to go from f3 to gp3 and vice versa.

It is not the kind of driver who feel completely comfortable with his own season.

These new teams are all good and well, but are they going to get 24 drivers? Doesn't look like it from the post-season test.

Far, far to early to say anything like that.

I think interest will be very strong but let's hope we don't see a ridiculous level of in-season seat changes as someone runs out of money every 2 races!

thinking out loud a bit here, and looking at the market and the potential drivers around, you can easily see them having another year like 2015 with about 25-30% of the field being in musical chairs. think it was in the f3 thread that someone pointed out that the "you're going to struggle if you're not at prema" factor *may* dissuade at least the less successful of the '15 rookies from sticking with f3 for '16, and sideways moves to gp3 or 3.5 might be on the cards.

and now 3.5 has lost the "yeah, but MONACO" factor over both f3 and gp3 it might not be as straight forward a choice as it was.
