Koiranen GP boss Marko Koiranen said that he is interested in Le Mans-type of cars. Perhaps his team next step would be the LMP or GT.

I'm not a fan at all of the all-electric idea, but I'm realistic enough to accept that it's going to happen one day soon..... The ACO can always stipulate the use of lolly sticks, I guess.....

Much as I liked the Delta Wing, I don't think a new one is going to be allowed in. It'll probably be a GTE version of their "new" car.

DSC is hinting at a Garage 56 entry. Doesn't that mean alternative technology? I don't think tarting up their GT4 car to GTE spec (or any other new ("new" indeed) car) will really cut it.
I'm sure they were talking about hybrids before, but can't remember much. Maybe a hybrid GT car? |

Hope it's not their dw street car thing with some electric motor slapped on it to be labelled 'innovative'.

Not so sure, however I wonder just how much Nissan blotted their copybooks with the Zeod and GTR-LM debacles..... If it was up to me, I certainly wouldn't be giving them a Garage 56 entry....

If it is something in G56, it needs to be new. And I'm a little cynical about that. I have a feeling it's going to be a rehash of an old idea. If the ACO allow something like that, they're desperate or Don must be promising a future entry. I'd hope! |

No evidence it will be any of this. However I'm up for electric. As long as it's fast. LMP2 fast is good enough and it doesn't matter if it is helped by relaxed regs - that's kind of the point - it is encouraging regs.

Well, it won't be long until their announcement. I hope for the best or something that's not the DW (which I have nothing against except it's already been used in g56).

Perhaps no MJ limit hybrid? You could run engine as generator and use only electric motors for drive. Such a engine would have to produce 15 kWh electiricty over a lap at LeMans, so it could run at constant 260 kW, that would make it a smaller engine.
I know the sound would be a constant annoying thing, but it would be something new not tried before. |

All electric is no-go, you would need 180kWh battery just for a normal stint, but then what? Recharge it or replace it in seconds?

Quick change batteries. Instead of a fuel fill up you change to another battery pack. I'd wager the pit stops would be a bit longer but it's feasible imo. Limit the amount of batteries they use. They can recharge them during the stint so they're not being wasteful. See if they can do a whole race on 3 or 4 battery packs. Should be a good show for the 'greenies'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZU0wnpyhF8 I think some people forget that Garage 56 is meant to be for experimental technology, and it is understood that it won't be winning races and will be a long way from maturity. All electric might not be as exciting as a traditional engine, but it is certainly an idea that can be adapted into a Garage 56 entry in the very near future. |
