That would make the most sense in relation to everything I've been hearing. Keating(with the help of a few others) paid up the money to keep the Viper in the series after Chrysler pulled the plug, I could see him putting forth the money for another constructor that's not willing to pay up themselves.

That's something that kids put on their bedroom walls. That's what a racecar should look like. Put a poster of the R18 on a bedroom wall and you're gonna have nightmares.

And they were present for the Roar test as well. Mercedes have talked with IMSA. They will probably get a deal done sometime after the season is closed out, possibly before. You were right. More arse-talk. |

Yes, it was in response to the talk above about a GTD programme.

Per the rumors/comments about Mercedes testing at Road Atlanta... Mercedes North American HQs are now in Atlanta and their manufacturing is next door in Alabama. Might be something exciting for their employees to have a team to pull for.

Hearing whispers that Manufacturers would be happy that Dpi replaced LMP1 Privateer class at Le Mans and WEC.
That move could bring alot of Manufacturers to the game. |

Would earth cracking news, and makes WAY too much sense for either IMSA or ACO to come up with. Now if some manufacturers came to both and said 'This is the ONLY way DPis and LMP1 privateer will survive so do it' then maybe we could see it.

Doubt the ACO would be very happy. They want their manufacturers to be in the hybrid class and not let them get away with a "let's glue a set of headlights on Ligier and call it our prototype" -approach.

@TzeiTzei
The problem is that ACO needs manufacturers should either Audi or Toyota leaves, but some of them like GM chose the cheap approach instead of making a hybrid system onto a prototype. Besides, I think ACO should drop the mandatory hybrid system so it can accommodate manufacturers or factory-backed privateers! |

I like the hybrids, but if the mandatory use of them was dropped it'd be cool. Not that I think there would be a lot of takers.

Yeah it would be kind of a side show. But it could offer privateers more options and no doubt could be great for us. |

The outrageous P1-Hybrid budgets is exactly what has driven IMSA to come up with their DPi concept - nothing to do with "doing it cheap", more like "sensible".
Yes, it very much has the feel of the former way of thinking by Grand-Am (instead of the out-and-out-spending philosophy of the ALMS/WEC) but realistically it's the only viable option in the N-A sportscar scene these days (and on a global level those F1 style budgets are hurting massively too). A little less restrictiveness in general would be nice though. |

The budget requirements for the Hybrids might be out of reach of course, but conventional Non-Hybrid LMP1s are just drop in the ocean in comparison. The OEMs could easily afford couple of millions per season to field semi-supported privateer LMP1s in United States if they really wanted to. But no, they just want to spend the mere minimal of pennies possible because *they can get away with it* and the organizers are scared of hurting anyones feelings. Also the constant BoP fiddling and political manipulation makes having complex racing cars worthless because having technical advantage (or disadvantage) is forbidden by law. So they might just as well continue piling stickers and aesthetic panels on spec cars other people made and continue calling them their on.

But that is past history and this conversation is supposed to be about DPi, which is NOT LMP-1, period! L.P. |
