According to what I read from Scott Atherton on ALMS website, there's no worries to have about the field to come in ALMS : "If I could tell you everything I know, car counts would not be a compelling story"
The Porsche stuff seems to become more and more possible... Last edited by Fab; 9 Feb 2005 at 09:03. |

just read the synopsis on dailysportscar.com
thank you god!!! a new LMP2 at Petit THIS YEAR and then a LMP1 in 2006??? selling LMP2s to privateers in 2006?! this is really great news if it goes to plan... Porsche vs. Audi >>> which one is the favorite?! with another yet to be named manufacturer (we can all speculate whether thats Mazda or Nissan) likely to debut in 2005, i think we might be realizing why Scott Atherton has been so upbeat! If this truly happens then we could have 4 works prototype teams at LeMans in 2006 - Audi, Porsche, Peugeot and ? This would be back to the great years and could lead to other manufacturers looking at it.
The one thing that ACO type racing has that no other series has is growing strength and exposure in Europe and America. All other series - F1, NASCAR, Champcar, IRL, Touring Cars etc have strength in one or the other and not both Who will win? - in some ways it would be good to see Audi do it as it would justify the strength of their wins of the past few years This also explains why Henri Pescerolo has been quoted as saying this year is his make or break chance at an overall win. |

If Porsche have revealed details to the point of a specific LMP2 debut at PLM and an LMP1 programme in time for Le Mans in 2006 this project has already gathered too much momentum not to go ahead.

SALEENS7R posted the details on page 3 of this thread. That really is as much as there is to tell. A number of key contracts within Porsche have been renewed or extended and the company has started recruiting personnel specifically for this project. |

Sounds promising anyway, thanks for the info!!
Porsche usually does not do things without being sure is a winning car, and that means testing, testing, testing...it´s quite late for a new car agenda until petit le mans, If there is going to be such a car and to debut at PLM, i think theres must be a running prototype by now. There has been some gossip about porsche tests at south africa and nurburbring, maybe they were more realistic than we thought... |

This news makes me cry....almost....well actually, yeah I do have a few tears in my eyes.
Looks like PLM may be more interesting than ever. Can we start some ideas on who would be a team that would buy one of the LMP2 cars? |
