No chance I would be undercut by Chinese imports, its a no win situation same as with the olympics which via my shop rates in Harrow am paying for, I get no business whatsover from the farce. Since when have the population of this country suddenly become interested in athletics etc. just wait to see how many unsold tickets in the next few days the things a joke.

Hmm. But other places have been (or were, not heard about it much recently) watching London to see how the CC model worked out. I'm sure the EU would be quite keen on the LEZ idea one way or another.

As for the other thing .... what wedding?

Is this the stuff that bringds the tests into line with an EU 'standard' and then makes life interesting by removing the need for a yearly test making it every 2 years ...? And if every 2 years will it become more expensive or will there be fewer testing stations?

Doesn't Manchester have a congestion charge and a few other European cities have LEZs?
I'm all for the wedding, it's lovely and I shall be sitting down watching William and Kate the movie on Sunday afternoon.

If I remember correctly the proposed Manchester Congestion charge was billed as part of the deal for paying for an extended tram system but the local voters were less than keen. Could be wrong though.

I think the LEZ things is something that the the EU would believe to be within their competence - so it's difficult to know whether the local poodles are trying to score brownie points with Bruxelles or are simply enforcing something that they still have powers to create and enforce without, to date, having to follow instructions issued elsewhere. One has to assume that if it is happening the boys and girls in Bruxelles are not opposed to it.

I was reading somewhere that Juan Carlos was the only surviving descendant of Louis XIV (The Sun King) who sits on the throne of any country.

Broadly correct, Grant......there was some concern that the only people eligible to vote on it were those living in Greater Manchester, whereas many of those who commute into Manchester live outside that boundary, but didn't get any say in it........fortunately Northern good sense prevailed......

I do think this latest extension of vehicles outlawed by the LEZ is ridiculous - it means if I got an order for an engine, say, within the zone, as my old Sprinter doesn't meet the spec, I'd either have to put it in a trailer behind my petrol car, or add IIRC £200 to the delivery charge......

I had to have a bit of a laugh at something on our local radio station (Spectrum FM) the other day.
They often have a phone “wind up” merchant on in the morning but they played a recording of one that went a little bit wrong in the USA.
Basically it was a call to a woman whose birthday it was and the guy pretended to be her husband’s boss to tell her he had been dismissed and was being sent home after being caught in a “compromising position” with his secretary.
This was live on air and it went blue with all sorts of things, then she suddenly said “now I don’t feel so bad about letting his brother **** me”!!!
The guy on the radio then said “Hi this is (*** radio station) happy birthday your husband is coming home to give you a present !
I wonder if they're still together ?

another laugh coming up; we've pretty much completed the list of jobs on the 360 car a week early. so yesterday we resumed fuel filling tests with the tuffjug. just discovered I put 10 litres of water in the tank (it smelt of petrol when I sniffed it.... but now I remember we were testing flow rates off the car about a month ago using water)

That reminds me of a radio station in the US that did a kind of Mr and Mrs type quiz over the phone. They phone the husband and wife up at different locations and ask them questions about their relationship etc. One time the question to the husband was when was last time you had sex and where you did it. He said at breakfast this morning in the kitchen. When she was asked when, she replied this morning, when asked where, the line went quiet for a while and when she did speak she said "up my a**e"

The property prices keep going down in this part of the world and the government (or powers that be) are increasing the rent on commercial units for UK businesses and letting them to far eastern clientele at reduced rates and 6 months free.
This has been happening slowly in the last couple of years with Chinese bazaars opening up selling basically junk . I'm glad I didn't start a business up as I thought about it once!
In the news the other day Spain is looking to China for a large hand out, Surprise Surprise !
