Do you need to take the Galaxie? Could someone else take it and you, if necessary, meet them at Goodwood on the way back from the Ferry?

Looks like you will have over 400 miles to do depending on exact route and ferry leaves Santander at 1500hrs monday. Presume you aren't taking any GD cars, so as WSM is first race sunday and FJ over by 1400hrs it can be done........ I guess other trucks will be pushing to get that ferry as well, so you won't be alone!

That was my thought and the reason why I asked the question. Porto is great but the logistics are a nightmare unless you combine it with a summer holiday.

On a serious note, it seems to me that we are all busy people. Losing two or thee days may not be an option. However if we were to arrange a joint trip whereby the cars and tools were transported as a group rather than by individuals then these jaunts may be more practical. Roger W alluded to something similar in another thread.

Just a thought.

Nothing wrong with the link unless you're touchy about seeing Yank tanks wrecked.......effective bit of kit but you'd have to be processing a lot of cars to get it to pay for itself.

When I owned a full-blown breakers yard if we had enough time we might rip the non-saleable engines out with the Hi-Ab before the cars were crushed, but at the then current prices for whole cars as scrap versus the same car with the engine and box ripped out and the two scrap streams sold seperately, it was marginal whether it was worth the time and effort. The differential may be greater at current prices, of course, and with more aluminium in the modern engines they are likely to have a higher value...

Now I just specialise in Alfas my turnover of cars is much lower, of course, and I do tend to spanner all the engines/boxes out before scrapping them...

Of course we didn't need to use T-cut afterwards, Gordon ;-)

I wonder if they can pull the engine without crushing the block castings or rendering them scrap as opposed to recyclable.

T-cut the average alfa and you'll be staring at thin air!

4 times I had that heavy old gearbox out but finally got the clutch operating, just 24thou of shims on the preload made the difference between it release or not. In some ways I am glad as I also noticed during one of the strip downs the the pilot bearing had fallen apart so changed that as well that may have wrecked the Tilton clutch.

So does that mean you are good to go this weekend @ Mallory then?

Shame I won't be racing as it may have been a chance for you to even the score a bit. Did I mention that it's 4-1
