Is Maro Engel actually confirmed with Carlin, as claimed further above?

I don't believe it's a done deal yet, otherwise there would have been an announcement, as with Bird and Moraes. But everyone is expecting it to happen.

Engel did have another good option, but that seems to have gone away now.

strange that Newnet have now sposored Mike Meadows into F3, wonder if that means there not backing Nathan Freke?

Though I guess that means Freke wont be in Brit F3 this year then.. wouldnt make sense to have 2 drivers opposing each other in the same champ

Yes, that may be why he has not been officially confirmed anywhere yet.

I seem to remember hearing the Freke was looking at options in America - no idea whether anything has come from this yet.

So erm, I don't want to be knocking some of the talent here but assuming he does sign up, Engel could be in the pound seats for the title this year then?

Kennard,'s ok, Mustonen is definitely very quick but needs to tame the wildness he showed in FR Eurocup.

Is there anyone else that could mount a title challenge?

I think Engel always has been the favourite since Conway and Senna decided to go to GP2 and Jarvis to Japan. Buurman would be strong opposition, but I'm still not sure that he's available. I haven't see much about this supposed DTM drive, but I suppose Mercedes could steer him towards the F3 Euroseries with a bag of gold.

Mustonen's problem, apart from the one you mention, is that he doesn't know the circuits, but he's definitely got the look of another quick Finn.

Sam Bird is highly rated by some and, assuming Oliver Turvey beat him to the Young Driver Award on merit, he could be a threat. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up in Carlin's fourth car.

Looking at dave not neil's list, I'm impressed that he has his finger on the pulse from so far away, but there are a few corrections.

Manor Motorsport are now looking unlikely, because Cheng has lost his funding and the ever helpful Mercedes folk don't think they can supply engines. Perhaps those were the ones that went to Carlin...

No one seems to talk about Hitech without mentioning Walter Grubmüller in the same breath and I expect they will run at least one other car, although probably not for a Mexican! Grubmüller did plenty of testing with Hitech at the end of last year and I don't see why he would bother with that unless there was a deal in the offing.

We don't know yet who will be in the two Mygales and there are persistent rumours that a current Lola or two could appear in the Championship Class.

In the National Class, the two Double R drivers are confirmed. T-Sport have a Mexican, but not the one mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised to see Garcia end up at Fluid.

Would Turvey really have the budget for a Mercedes team though?

Fluid tested the Dallara last year, will they maybe run one Dallara and one Lola in National?

As for an early prediction for Champion..... I'll go for Jelley.

You could be right about Jelley. He is going to be engineered by 'Boyo' Hieatt, but if he is also given number 1, that sometimes acts a jinx...

The point you make about Turvey is a valid one, unless he is getting some help from somewhere, but I know they have talked to Carlin. The smart move would probably be for him to get a good drive in the National Class, win that, which would keep his CV looking bright and shiny, then move up to the Championship Class next year.

Fluid have two National Class Lolas already, so that answers that one. Maybe they would use a Dallara if they run Christiano Morgado in the Championship Class.

It is, it's Ryszard Kudzak's own Lola-Dome F106/3.

That's correct, but Martin Kudzak (the son) will not be racing in British F3 this year and there's nothing to stop Kudzak Sr. doing a deal with Fluid to allow them to use the car for another driver.

In any case, they have, or did have, access to a third car, so one way or another I think you'll find I'm right on this one.

I think Fluid do have another car, I've been to their workshop, and I think there was 3 F3 cars in there.

I haven't seen any official announcement, but the word from Australia is that their reigning Formula Ford champion, John Martin, has signed for Alan Docking Racing. He did well in a few UK FFord outings with ADR last year, including a win on the Brands Hatch GP circuit, so could be one to watch.
