Sometimes there is a subtle (read - 'acceptable') difference between breaking the rules and helping some of these smaller volume manufacturers to meet the GT3 homologation criteria.... I believe the only reason the Mosler doesnt qualify is the number of units built to date but surely a way can be found for it (and other 'genuine' low volume, road legal sports car manufacturers) to obtain suitable homologation rating's if their car's comply in every other way Lets face it, they are not like the 7 Litre Monaro's that were never ever going to be a reality except in GM Holden's PR Department's mind's and the 3 purpose built GRM race cars..... Am interested to hear other peoples opinion's though |

Let's blame the Monaro's for the drought. |

How ever luck for Martin there are some alternatives that don't rely on "FIA" homologation. From what i hear from the Rollcentre garages over there, they are planning on attending some BRITCAR rounds and possibly a BELCAR round or two so its good he can run it somewhere. |

The 200 minimum cars is only a recent rule of the FIA. Ascari joined prior to this rule being written. |

And they reckon that if the Ascari starts doing too well too often, its place in the championship maybe in jepordy...I reckon that the 200 units rule should be dropped for the Australian Championship - and really look at performace levelling measures...to send away cars from the Australian Championship would not be the wisest move...it needs all the interest it can get and I reckon diversity in the field is the way to get it ---as long as they meet all the other requirements of GT3 homologation criteria

for sure,
i could see teams here being more reluctant to spend $600K for an Askari thats homologated when they could purchase a Mosler for around $340K and still no word on the 997's eligibility or are we going to be running half arsed rules and allowing the 996's to the modified up to 997 speed? If so then they can't really stop cars like the Mosler from Entering |

yeah BELCAR is being ruined the 996 GT2R's are being even more heavily restricted. When are these changes happening? After talking to JBM a couple of months back they were going to be preparing the MC12 for the BELCAR series as it is eligible until the end of 2012.....
With the changes there are going to be lots of cars and teams that have no where to race (stealth's, Marcos, GT2R, BMW GTR ect) like here. The Tropheo and and C5 that Ken James is meant to be running next year (heard that all this year) won't be allowed to run in 09 |

I would much prefer to see something like This wandering around the race tracks than an Ascari or Mosler

luckily for you there are already 4 out there, really i doubt any aussie teams will be paying for a mosler or askari, when you look that you could buy 2 Aston martin DBRS9's for the price of 1 askari
obviously we won't see Mr French out on track next year in that |

According to an FIA-information Brochure the prices of the cars were last season like this: # Dodge Competition Coupe: 148.000€ # Corvette GT3: 200.000€ (now 235T€ for 2007 spec) # Ascari KZ1: 240.000€ # Aston Martin DBRS9: 250.000€ (&50.000 for seq gearbox) # Porsche GT3-Cup: 130.000€ (&20.000 if not involved in an official Porsche-Cup) # Lamborghini Gallardo: 175.000€ # F430 Challenge: 180.000€ (&8.000 for a GT3-Kit) # Maserati Grand Sport Light: 180.000€ the Mosler should have been about 200.000€ so pricewise it should have fitted the range.
