Hi Al, lovely to hear from you again. I'm busy this weekend (need a weeks notice) to plan things out. BUT...I will come to one of the meetings I promise. Gerry.

Right folks, update on the possibility of the race at Rockingham later in the year.

In the light of what's been going on behind the scenes at the Rock, I'm not holding much hope of it coming off. However, that doesn't mean that the idea is dead. I'll keep you all informed if anything happens.

Unmentioned cars......

Mike Chittenden had a very rapid MK2 Escort with a Cosworth Turbo engine, does anyone remember him being on the front row at Brands 1991 I think, alongside Steven's Carlton and hanging on round the outside at Paddock and Druids on the first lap to take the lead going in to Graham Hill bend? A great car that was destroyed at Snetterton that year when the throttle stock open going in to the first corner causing Fred Taylor who was driving to have a huge shunt. The Carlton is in a private collection I think?
The legend was sold to Ron Cumming after John Woolfe had to retire from racing. Good luck with the proposed meeting.

The Carlton is still in the hands of Pete Stevens. He had it rebuilt at Vauxhall's expence (so the rumour has it) for the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few years ago.
I remember the Escort - yes it was banzai quick, but fragile and had hairy handling.
As I understand it, yes Ron had the Legend.

The way things are going in the Track & Race Cars series, it's turning into Thundersaloons via the back door! Just that the races are much shorter, and it costs very little to enter!

Rob - I spotted a black Escort (Mk5, I think, whatever mark that Rod / Nick Williamsons are) in a workshop not far from Brands, yesterday. It looked very Thundersaloon-like, and had a sunstrip proclaiming development by Empress. Do you know anything about this one?

Hi guys, you have probably seen this post in other places but I'm trying to find a Fiat 128 that was raced by Jean Denton in Special Saloons in the early 70's, possibly just in 72. The only pic I have of the car shows it to be yellow and blue striped. It was left hand drive and sponsored by Huxfords. Any one know of its whereabouts?
On another note, and you may have covered it elsewhere (didn't have time to read it all) Ron Cumming now runs the AC here in Ireland in Libre races. Last time I spoke to him he also has the Sierra that was mentioned and various other bits.

It was mentioned in another thread, but I've forgotten who's it is now, and if they're planning to use it.

Would an older modsports car be eligible (competitive?) in such a series? Thinking of Big Sam, my modsports Datsun 240z.

The Black Escort that raced in Thundersaloons had a big American engine in it. Pontiac rings a bell but it might have been a Buick.

Sam,

Have you looked at the North West Sports and Saloons. Been going a long time. Its run by the BARC Northern Region by John Leck (I think).

Lots of old and new modsports, classes for just about everything.

I'm hoping to get together some super saloons and thunder saloons for the Retro Rides Show : www.retro-rides-show.com (full website now up). Both for static display and for running round the sprint as a demo.

What is the headcount like for these cars now? This thread seems to have dug up a fair few of them.

Has this cover from CCC been on here yet?
