Hi htc,

If you look at post 163 in this thread then you will see that at least 1 LHD escort raced in Australia.

Post some photos and i'll do my best to help, i've got quite a bit of info on this subject.

Cheers,

Gary.

Here is the link to the discussion on the S'Sedan forum.

http://www.sportssedans.com.au/forum...?a=topic&t=110

I have found a reference in an old RCN of a Mike Meetam running a Zakspeed Escort. No pictures though. It was in the Wanneroo 300 over in WA back in the 80's. I will try and locate the date of the meeting. I have been digging around trying to help HTC for a while with old articles etc to no avail.

Would love to see any pics you have Gary of the cars as they ran in Australia.
Here are the pics of HTC's car (HTC read the thread on the S'Sedan forum on how to post pics as the same applies here on 10/10).

Hi All, Ian Grey's car only did one race in OZ circa'81. This is now Gary NZ's car. The HTC car must be a local copy or one of the Hong-Kong copy that was raced by Mike Mettam in Australia with rotary. (as advertised for sale in aust) Car was raced once in Malaysia October '83. GAry NZ's car spent most of it's life in Malaysia
with a list of illustrious local and foreign drivers.

Hi All,

Great photos of this car in Aussie, sorry can't help with any info though.

Driftwood, I would be very sure that 5 Gp 5 cars were built by Zakspeed. This would include the 2 Gp 2 cars converted to Gp 5 specs in 77 and then there were 3 Gp 5 cars built later in 77 and into 78, that makes 5.
All these cars can be accounted for.

Cheers,

Gary.

I was going through some old mags and can only find 3 references to the Ian Grey car running in Oz. They were all in 1981 at Wanneroo.
- August 16th 1981 ASSC Rd6 Meeting. Entered in the Sports Sedan Race. Quotes Ian Grey's Group 5 Zakspeed Escort from Singapore was racing by Invitation. It also raced in the Sports Car race.
- September 6th. Twin States Sports Sedan Challenge. Raced in the division 2 event by Invitation. It came 2nd to Dick Wards mighty rotary powered Fiat Abarth.
- October 25th. Wanneroo 300. The race where Paul Halstead ran a Lamborghini Contach.

Zakspeed Escort

Hi Gary,
Thought I should share with your forum buddies the pending release of the prints from the water colour painting. Give me a call re the final setup but the two cars can be got as single prints or with both cars in the same print with either number 1 car in front or number 2. Pictures attached, regards Dave

Hello everybody!
Here is a little update from our Zakspeed-Escort project!
We passed the engine and the Gearbox into the engine bay. Now we must build a exhaust with manifold and a new propshaft. The things are going on, but very slowly.
Cheers! Martin
