Slowcoach should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Escort RS Turbo

Before Ford introduced the Cosworth Sierra to the racetrack in the mid eighties did they campaign the mk1 Escort RS Turbo in production saloon car racing or even the BTCC, I know there was an abortive RS1700T project but I'm thinking just of the car that they actually produced for homologation ? Or is there a definitive Ford motorsport history site that I could take a look at ?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Check out the book Ford in touring car racing - it has a chapter on the RS1600i and turbo as raced in the BTCC.
I would not call it a mark 1 Escort - we're talking about the mid-80's frontwheeldrive car, not the 1967-1975 Escort mk 1

Richard Longman campaigned a 1600i as did Chris Hodgetts. RL went on to run the turbo version the following season.

Longman and Alan Curnow campiagned the RS Turbos in Royal Mail Datapost colours in 85/6, replacing their earlier RS1600i's (although at least one RS1600i may have run in early rounds, as I seem to remember the turbo might not have been ready -or homologated?- in time for the first race or two in 85.

Terry Drury Racing also ran the RS Turbo from 86 (as in Carrera's photo), replacing their Alfa GTV6s- from memory, the Drury team continued to run them through 1987/8- drivers included Hales and Karl Jones.

They were very widely used in production saloon racing- some of the production saloon versions occasionally turned up in BTCC races, particluarly the GP support rounds
