ALL STAR EVENT OF ALL TIME (dream race)
Give me your opinion on the best grid of all time. This would be 22 drivers in F1 from 1950 to present day. Kind of an "all star" event of all time. Give me top finishing positions, your opinion of who would be on pole etc. I'll start.
Starting grid. 1 Fangio 2 Senna 3 Prost 4 Moss 5 Schumacher 6 Stewart Finishing grid. 1 Fangio 2 Prost 3 Senna 4 Stewart 5 Schumacher 6 Clark |

What would they be driving and where? And why can't we have pre war, Nouvalari is definitely in my top 6, and Rosemeyer might be too if the control car is a C-Type Auto Union

Did Moss blow his engine, and did Clark come from the back of the grid to claim 6th?

The Dream Race
The Grid: (Poles/Starts X 100 = %)
Fangio 56.9% Clark 45.2 Ascari 42.4 Senna 40.1 M. Schumacher 25.6 Moss 23.9 The Finish: (Wins/Starts X 100 = %) Fangio 47.1% Ascari 39.4 Clark 34.2 M. Schumacher 32.5 Stewart 27.0 Too close to call: Senna - 25.3% or Prost - 25.2% Dead Heat! There is no way that MS will reach the top in either category! |

How many cars were there on the grid in Ascari and Fangio's time as compared to Senna and Schummi's?

Holy cow! There were many more back then... I had the impression that in the 50's there were few teams, but that is not true..

As far as Fangio and Ascari's stats are concerned, its worth remembering that they had started their careers before the F1 championship satrted, so they had gone through the learning years and effectively started more at the level of Hakkinen 1997 than Hakkinen 1991, and much mroe ready to win races and poles from the word go.

Something with more power than grip and Spa (60s style)? Drivers (no particular order): Senna, Fangio, Clark, Prost, Stewart, Fittipaldi, Ascari, Rosemeyer & Nouvalari (if allowed), Montoya, Lauda, Villenueuve (Gilles - obviously), Rindt, Andretti, Mansell, Piquet, Hakkinen, Badoer (I know my readership!), Ashmore (me, hopelessly outclassed, but hey!), Rosberg, Amon, oh yes and Schumacher (no Rubens or Eddie here, his teammate would have to be Senna). That 22. A mix of the old and the very new. |

Ok, since this only opinion, and not fact, I will give my 22 drivers:
Mansell, Senna, Prost, G. Villeneuve, Clark, Fangio, Moss, Stewart, Peterson, Ascari, M. Schumacher, Lauda, Reutemann, Martini (a personal favourite), Gurney, G. Hill, Hakkinen, Piquet, Brabham, E. Fittipaldi, and if allowed, pre-war racers Nuvolari and Carriciola. Track: Nurburgring (14 miles of it - seperate the men from the boys) Cars: early 1970s Pole: Clark Winner: Nuvolari Fastest Lap: Prost Dark horse: Martini!!! Best passing move: G. Villeneuve on Mansell and Mansell on G. Villeneuve First retirement: Gurney (unlucky *******) Remember, this is just my opinion!! |

Sounds good! Includes quite a few I regret leaving of my list.
Despite your number of posts you have missed the point of expressing an opinion. I thought that when you expressed an opinion you had to write FACT in big letters several times through your post! I like this thread because there is a lack of facts and it is all make-believe! I also liked your prediction bit, so here's mine. Pole: Senna Winner: Prost Fastest Lap: Rosberg Dark horse: from this lot! I suppose Montoya as he is the most unproven. Best passing move: all of them because there would be some. First retirement: Villeneuve and Schumacher at the start Last retirement: Amon on the last lap! Best excuse: Mansell |

All Time Dream Race-- Reposted
I wasnt quite clear on my last post about an "all-time, all-star race." Any driver competing in Grand Prix racing from its inception including pre-war to present day. List as far down the grid as you want, the finishing position in this "dream race." ALL EQUIPMENT IS EQUAL. We are talking about pure skill, and not one particular type of car. Think of each driver as being in their prime, and on their best day.
Let the games begin. |
