Series to face axe

The championship control panel has announced that championships which average less than 14 cars per round will be axed or amalgamated. Motoring News report that the first to be effected could be the BARC/BRSCC Formula Honda championship, which would be amalgamated with the Monoposto championship.
This could bring major problems to series that are currently suffering with low grids. Will the Mighty Minis/Super Mighty Minis be affected by this??? Hopefully not, the organisers should be able to see it is an improving championship. For example, the T-car series is only designed to have a dozen cars, so should not be affected.

About time too, start getting low grids together - and everyone's happy.

I agree as well. Strong grids normally means better racing, or at least a better chance of it happening!

Stephen.

Does anyone have any ideas about other series that they feel should be amalgamated. I believe by doing this you are just creating too many 'saloon car' championships etc. For example: at present we have the Super Coupe Cup and Castle Combe Saloon Series which are open to a wide range of cars - but further amalgamation will create more of these! I know they provide great racing but is this what we want.

As opposed to thin grids? Yes .

Also, after beeing at Combe yesterday and watching the HSCC boys do their stuff one of the best things about it all was the variety of cars. Less championships, more variety, more 30 car grids.

You are going to hate this but, motor racing is as much about entertainment as it is racing, and unless you get decent drids, then you will not get the paying public to come and watch in any great numbers.

If you can get a package together of various series, all with good grids and decent racing, then larger viewing figures should follow. If that happens I think you have more bargaining power over circuit owners as to what you have to pay to hire the track for the day/weekend.

Sorry to be a spoilsport!

If you read the article in Motorsport News closely it does actually say that anhy championship that does also show signs of improving will be allowed to continue even if grid sizes are small. Therefor Formula Honda is very likely to remain as the grid at Donington last weekend was 15 cars and there is a possibility of another 9 for the next race!

Excellent

I agree with you Andy, it takes time for any series to grow and flourish. What they should be looking closely at are those series where grid numbers are falling, and have been doing so for some time. That's when they need to look closely at whether to amalgamate with other series or, just call it a day.
