Shame that Kevin won't be in the latest car, but still brilliant news that he has a drive for 2018: I was afraid he would miss out on a seat with Peugeot Sport now running the team.

I think the Loeb car looks the best of the bunch.

Forgive the double post, but it looks like Nitiss will contest the European Championship in the ex-Gronholm (M-Sport) Fiesta:

Nitiss is a WRX driver IMO even if he had a bad last season. It's a shame that many talented drivers has to opt for lower championships because of the costs.

Went to see last years results and compare Grönholm and Nitiss since Nitiss perhaps could have been in a Hyundai with GRX. Apparently Grönholm scored just 4 points and had lost 45 points(!) due to use of four engines, use of two new turbo seals after initial scrutineering and seven turbos. Nitiss would however still have been 22 points ahead of Grönholm.

I hadn't noticed the number of penalties Gronholm had accumulated last year! I had assumed that the Fiesta still had Pipo engine(s) in it last year, but with such a high failure rate does that mean the engines were from elsewhere? (or is Niclas very hard on engines?)

Sorry, another double post (bring back the edit button Mods!), but confirmation that Nitiss will be driving in the European Rallycross Championship here:

http://reinisnitiss.com/en/jaunumi/r...-championship/

I didn't realize there was any connection between Set Promotion and Gronholm.

M-Sport prepared the car before the season so they were probably hard on the engine.

The rules of a limited number of engines, turbos etc. should be scrapped though. It just means more spending on development.

I think you could read this rule either way. I personally think the restriction is a good idea as it means that the big teams can't keep fitting new engines in cars for each round.

Jerome Grosset-Janin confirmed as the second driver for GCK (with Timo Scheider as a test driver):

I know that in theory you could have a new engine every round but it wouldn't be worth spending that kind of money or building that many. The rule first came during the ERC days and was suggested by Hansen. I heard Hansen wanted to remove that rule after a few seasons.

With three engines teams develop them to maximum since they have no choice. Without the rule, or allowing more engines, one has to decide if it is worth spending money on making a few good or spending it on some extra engines. I think the rules could be made better at least.

As for JGJ, great to see him back and I hope he will be able to keep up. Very expensive seat though.

Scheider is quite in the mix now with Prodrive driving a Renault, competing with allinkl and in some way affiliated with BMW for rallycross.

Mentions that the first round is 14-16 April at Barcelona. I hope it doesn't start on the Friday as I'm not going to the track all three days. I fear that could become a trend this year as it seemed to gain traction last season. This isn't F1. 2 days is sufficient.

I think all events are Friday to Sunday, scrutineering and press stuff on Friday, plus some support class practice and heats, then the WRX practice and racing on Saturday and Sunday

EKS tease on facebook that their S1 will be revealed tomorrow.

Pusher talks in a German on-line magasine that their WRX programme will be only a few races, providing they can find a good driver. Maybe they will be the car to hire for wildcards. One of the 2017 cars is already sold.

Re Gronholm spoke to him this morning to congratulate him, especially on TT. Marcus is very excited for this year. Hope the hopes come to fruition.

Re SET Promotion, Jussi did a lot of work with OMSE when Marcus was driving the Best Buy car and that built the relationship that continues now. TT was a stand in for Marcus in the Best Buy car after his career ending accident in Vegas FWIW.

I noticed the MJP Fiesta was up for sale on a site this week plus MJP are developing the Platinum class for GRC so wonder if they have pulled the plug on WRX

I haven't asked him but wonder where all of this leaves Andreas Eriksson who was a major driving force behind most of this. He has lost Lites in the US I assume with the Gold class and likewise not sure if Honda will stick around. And he hasn't been in the WRX full-time for a couple of seasons. Know he still has Lites but as I personally like AE and hoped that he would land something.

Would be a real shame if AE was a victim of his own success. Hopefully we will see him pick up momentum now he hasnt got that many options. He's good for rallycross regardless of what anyone thinks. In my opinion he was given little option but to go to America because it was sufficiently lucrative for him and his business. Personally I'd still like to see him behind the wheel again!

Andreas has seemed rather bolshy on occasion, but I still hope to see him/OMSE participating in European rallycross in 2018. The ideal scenario would be to see him bring the Civics to Europe, but I don't know what motivation there would be for him to do that (and if the rumours of an IMG rallycross Championship in the US are true, perhaps the Civics will still have a use over there).

Olsbergs MSE is testing with the Honda in Lohéac today. I still hope that they will do all World RX rounds with at least two cars. And I saw a Ford Fiesta on the photos from France, I wasn't able to see from which team tough.

Eriksson told parcferme.no that he is trying to homologate the Honda but that he hasn't decided on wether to use a Ford or Honda.

He has plans to run two cars in WRX. Larsson and Kevin are two candidates for the seats.
