Discussion of Contentious issues
Hi folks,
Just a note regarding discussions of a certain legal case that is pending! We have no issue whatever with discussion of the facts as reported or related issues. We have no issue on speculation on how this is going to impact the sport. However, speculation about additional criminal activities, insults to the parties involved or anything else that could be construed as defamation of character will be removed. We have confidence that all our regular users have more than enough sense to be able to abide by these rules (which are in our FAQ) but it's always helpful to have a reminder somewhere you can look at quickly! Any queries, please let me know. Cheers, EP |

Furthe to EPs post...
It is purely to protect the site. It is perfectly OK for autosport to print facts which are confirmed, it is another thing for people to engage in speculation on the site. Since the collapse of the Bowyer trial after a Mirror article, the Courts Act 2003 was passed which allows very large fines to be given to any media outlet which allows content which could be prejudicial to the trial, which is in fact a contempt of court. I guess it may be ok for a transcript of the article to be printed purely for members information then the thread to be locked. |

Actually it's to protect the site and the users. We have a disclaimer that whilst we make every effort to ensure that postings are correct etc. we take no responsibility for the content of the posts and any legal action should be made against the person who makes the statement.
As for reproducing the article..... not unless we have written permission to reproduce .... then we're into copyright law. Ain't the internet fun! |

Since this post was originally made on 03/03/05:
We have taken legal advice on this matter and based on the advice we have received and the conduct of certain people within this thread, we have been left with no other alternatives. The subject of Vic Lee for the moment is off limits on Ten-Tenths. This is largely due to the postings of a few people who insist on pushing their own agenda and putting this site - and any potential legal proceedings - in jeopardy as a result. No further threads on this will be permitted until the court case is complete. At that stage we will review the situation and see if we can resume sensible discussion. I'm sad that it's necessary to do this, but I am not prepared to have this site brought into disrepute by a handful of users who are incapable of sensible discussion on a delicate subject - and I will not take the risk of damaging a criminal prosecution. I will be putting this as a hot topic in the forum as well. Anyone breaching this rule will have posting privileges removed immediately. There will be no further warnings. |
