MARTINTYMAN should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
CROSS PLY v RADIAL

I have always raced on radial tyres (List 1B) but have been recommended to try a tyre that is a cross ply. What are the pros and cons between the two types of construction for race use?

The "cross ply" uses less camber and its dimentional variability (ie tyre size) makes it harder to control thoroughly things like ride height, corner weights, etc.

The only reason I would choose a cross ply over a radial is because a better compound or if it allows wider temp range driveability...

I would agree with Berlatti.
I had the opportunity to do a fair bit of testing with Avon years ago on my own car and had to do major spring/caster/camber changes with new FF crossplies to get anywhere near my best lap times on radials.
Obviously I can only speak of my experience on my own particular car (RWD with a beam axle) and given enough time it might have been possible to get nearer the times, but wth the compliance in the sidewalls on radials you can get a car to handle quite well in a shorter time.
Unless of course you have an unlimited budget then you can pay someone else to sort it for you !
