Very true.
I really don't mind either way, any concert after a race is just a bonus....I've never purchased a ticket because of who will be performing that night. If its someone I'm not interested in, I get home earlier.
Have seen some ripper shows at Clipsal though, just not every year.
Bringing back a Sunday concert will be a positive choice for many no doubt. Very keen to see how the event goes this year after a lot of criticism in 2017 and Clipsal stepping down

Sydney night race locked in for 2018

Dubbed the Red Rooster Sydney SuperNight 300, the August 4 event will feature a single 300km race run in a three-hour window from 7-10pm.

What kind of a crowd are they hoping to get to a night race in the middle of winter in Blacktown? Great idea, but run it in the warmer months

I love the race format.... but it's hardly "Twenty/20 style" which they have been talking about, this is a much more traditional sort of race format!

Agreeing with you on winter, i wonder if they even expect a crowd

Im interested how a 300km race in a 3 hour event on a Saturday evening is "traditional"sort of race format?" what race has held that format before?

Very little chance of spectators turning up so obviously a Foxtel only show. The Warbler is going from success to success. Someone once said " Wouldn't it be great to be in business if you didn't have to have those pesky CUSTOMERS".

Maybe they could double feature it with the drive in next door.
Put Senna the movie on the big screen...

They play Twenty / 20 during the day too.

If scheduling a race a night is Supercars idea of Big Bash then they have failed to learn from what cricket has achieved.

The beauty of big bash cricket is the pace of the game, and minimal downtime.

At odds with hair-trigger Schenken, the Supercars schedule.

Traditional in the sense we have a single race of a significant distance.

Surely if they wanted a Twenty/20 style format, something like the old 3x20mins format under lights fits the bill perfectly

If it's "made for TV" then it goes against the grain if they are having what is in effect the usual Sunday "Supersprint" mini-enduro, just running it under lights... I'd have thought something like the old 3x20mins format is more attractive for a made-for-TV spectacular?

I personally love the race format they are suggesting, I wish they'd do it at every round because i like having one race and one winner from a weekend (Just like F1, MotoGP, NASCAR Cup Series etc..) and I like night racing...... but as a motor racing enthusiast I wouldn't have thought i'm the type of person they are trying to attract, the way this event has been spoken of until now anyway?

Hearing you but then SMP has never drawn a crowd for supercars in the way that Oran Park did for example - I'm guess they figure that it's worth doing something radical to see if they can turn that around.

Benefit of winter of course is that it's fully dark earlier, making the race more of a true "under lights" experience if started earlier. Bit chillsome there in winter though - maybe they'll install crowd heaters into the grandstand?

I like the format too but it means that fans need to stay to the end for a result, whereas a different format might let those with kids for example head off earlier after seeing some racing as the kids get cold/tired. The detail of it will all matter of course but I could imagine a (say) 5:00 PM start (or a bit earlier) having the racing all done by 7:00 or something like that. Then do some music or drifting or other entertainment after that to make it a night out.

Very happy to see the return of the 300km format. These cars haven't worked with short races in a long time IMO and the 300km race should also get rid of the need for the convoluted fuel drop. Natural racing is always best.

A few points about the Sydney race
1Glad it is on the proper circuit. The short circuit takes away most of the overtaking points.
2Glad they are having a proper race.We have found out in recent years that the 20 minute races are totally processional.
3Hopefully they will have a full day of support races before the Supercars start.
4The crowd will be smaller than this year.I live in Western Sydney and it is 3-6 degrees type cold at night at this time of year. All Sydney NRL clubs prefer day matches because they can always get a lot more people on a Sunday afternoon. This is obviously meant for tv rather than those dinosaurs who still insist at turning up at track. Its success should be judged by ratings not attendance.
