Renault's race pace
Autosport (tomorrow) are suggesting that Renault miught hav the pace over a race stint. There is a graph which caught my eye, which shows the Renault managing to be siginifcantly faster than the William later in a ten lap stint.
I know little of how the data was gathered or manipulated. The graph wouldn't make it in a proper scientific journal! However maybe (it's just testing!) it is a good sign for Renault. |

Let's hope it is, i would really love to see Renault up there again with the big three and even more than that.
And kick some BAR asses in the process too! |

It could be interesting if the graph is representative of the data, without being manipulated to try and make a headline.

Very good run from Renault again at Jerez today. Renault, BAR, McLaren and Williams all seem quite evenly matched going into the season.
Lets hope Michelin is VERY strong and we could realistically see Ferrari outside the top ten. Here's hoping! |

I hope Ferrari aren't overshadowed that much! A five-way fight would be.....something to savour!

Just read the Autosport article again (and properly). To be fair they did make an effort to make sense for what data you can gain from testing (just testing).

I'm sure they're stronger than that too - I was just saying it would be a good change!

Ferrari will be competitive but they're going to have a lot of competition. This year should be another cracker.

Well, Sir Frank Williams ranked Alonso as second only to Schumy in his tips for 2004.
He added: "We've got a good car, but I suspect Ferrari will be the team to beat. And I think that Renault will cause a few major problems." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ne/3480137.stm |

Yeah Led Zepp and I think 'Mikky the Hakka' will have to eat his recent words about Alonso.

However, Renault is playdowns that hype, and state that they are far from being a threat to the big teams on the grid.

If they are, then their chassis must be fantastic. Are they running skirts or something then?

The engine this year is a stop-gap until the new design for 2005 is ready.
Yes, it is based on the old Mechachrome unit - but with very-much revised internals. |

Stop it..... You'll actually give Paul Stoddart hope. He'll start saying Minardi can win too, with revised internals in out of a Mini Copper S Engine and in the Prost car.....

Best single lap times in testing are masking the true picture...seems the Renaults are able to maintain less 'fall off' in lap times after their first hot-lap on new tyres than most of their opposition!

Looks more promising than it did a few months ago when there were suggestions that Renault would struggle this season with the 'interim' engine.
Perhaps if the car is good enough then Trulli can win a race. Last edited by x_dt; 14 Feb 2004 at 06:33. |

Being fast late in a stint isn't always the most important thing though, if they're already running behind a Williams (say) then even if they can run a second a lap faster, tehy still have the problem of trying to overtake. All the same, it's encouraging, and suggests that 2004 will be a reaonable year, and 2005 a very good one.
