Enjoyed the race, yes, Ferrari ballsed up not calling Vettel in under the vsc. Star of the day? Little French kid, Thomas the Kimi fan. Nice one Ferrari... |

I wonder if the new owners had something to do with that Ferrari kid being invited in. They've made a real effort on YouTube, fan interaction and even the numbers on the fins. It wouldn't surprise me if they suggested it to Ferrari. You couldn't imagine that happening a couple of years ago. Lovely gesture.

A better than usual Montmelo race, certainly. But the first two aside, and a couple of strong strategy calls elsewhere, it was boring as hell with the usual cars being stuck in dirty air bobbins preventing some progress for a lot of pedallers.
The other thing of note. It really has become the in thing for drivers to whinge on the radio!! Vettel and Alonso have set a nasty trend! |

Au contraire – it's wonderfully refreshing to hear them talk like human beings rather than the automatons we see and hear in the press area, complete with PR girl right behind them recording their every word. |

No. It would become contrived. The joy of today was that it appears to have been completely spontaneous.

After the first few laps I was fearing a snore-fest as everyone got spaced a few seconds apart, but due to the strategic manoeuvering it all became quite engaging and an entertaining race.
Agree that the young French kid having his tears wiped away by meeting Kimi was pure PR gold........Could have sworn his Dad was wearing a Merc cap when they first picked him up on camera......which he seemed to have lost, later. (Brilliant work by the cameraman and director, for once - I normally rant at shots of anyone other than racers, especially celebs, but that was great!) |

Couple posts I disagree with: I don't think ferrari has been poor on strategy on the whole this year. Yes, they probably should have either pit during the vsc or with about 18 laps or so to go to try and go after Hamilton on softs. But most of the year they've kept Mercedes on their heels and had them reacting and slipping up at times.
I also disagree about the race being boring outside of the top two. There were storylines and battles all throughout. Sainz fighting with the Magnusson and wehrlein and others (can't remember who it was he was side by side with for a while there). Wehrlein in the top 10! Alonso passing the Williams late. There were plenty of interesting things happening. I have never liked Kimi. Like, at all. But that moment with the kid put a huge smile on my face. It seems the Americans running the show now are taking pages out of indycar, imsa and other series that are more open in the paddocks and fan friendly. Really excited with what they've done so far. And they've gotten lucky with the timing of Ferrari coming on this year too. |

The sight of the little lad crying was very touching, and while some may dismiss the pit visit as blatant PR, maybe they were never young fans themselves!
Over the years I have often felt gutted when a favourite hit trouble, and while never brought to tears, I fully appreciate the boys feelings, especially as he is still just a 'boy', as at that age hero worship is intense. Whether Kimi was happy about the idea or not is a not the question, the whole idea was for the benefit of the lad, and Kimi has children of his own I believe. Good PR no doubt, but I prefer to think that it was driven by humanity, not publicity. Well done to whoever organised it. Bauble, well known Silly Old Fool. |

What a pleasant surprise. It was the best race I have seen for ages, and even the Highlights on C4 was really excellent.Steve Jones is a total relief of the mincing Lazenby, and DC and KC make by far the best team, with Mark Webber and EJ sitting in the wings for other races,so it all bodes well for 2017 season!Several Stars all the way down the grid,so again the racing seems to have returned from the processions of past years.Good Stuff!!

Even if twas driven by publicity, that little boy doesn't know or care. He had the day of his life. That's important.

And he's now an F1 fan for life, if not already. Too many sports are catering to the older fans with money, which sometimes transfers to their offspring. However, the gesture shown by an historically renowned F1 factory team was a great moment that should be seen more often in motor sports.

Or Hawthorn's BRM pulling off from the 1956 British Grand Prix after leading the field.

It seemed the Spanish gave us an enjoyable race. A genuine pass for the lead on a track that's supposed to be difficult to overtake? That's a start
Plenty of incident throughout the race, especially at the first corner, proving it is a good overtaking spot. And an excellent battle between Wehrlein and Kvyat Fred can now go to Indy on a high, he seemed to enjoy that one, even finishing down the order. He even passed both Williams. Finally nice to see the new owners being civil in letting that little nipper into the Ferrari pit. Just hope it doesn't mean we see crocodile tears in the future |

Be interesting to watch the Mercs from now. Several, including Sky F1 reckon team orders will put Bottas as a No2 to keep Vettel at bay and let Hamilton run. I say, lets watch the next 5 Gps...If Bottas gets in there and wins a couple, Merc may have a decision on their hands. No one on here has commented on Hamilton's exhausting race. He seemed very out of breath and not that "fit" compared to other runners. Any ideas?

I think it highlights just how hard he was pushing, rather than an indication of fitness. I have seen people get short of breath playing video games if they concentrate hard enough. |
