Honda deliver ETCC blow

Honda have announced they will not be entering the new ETCC in 2002. Despite helping create the super 2000 rules, the JAS team couldn't find enough sponsorship and therefore have decided against a works entry. However, some cars could go into the hands of privateers. But no seat for Tarquini as of yet.

It's a pity.

I hate to say this but I'm very selfish and franly don't care about the ETCC as long as the BTCC is here I'm fine.

While it is too bad that Honda won't be there, it isn't a real surprise to hear this. The Civic R was to only be allowed a one year pass and so I guess they just decided to not bother. I do hope they are there in 2003 with a new Accord.

Despite Honda,Edenbridge BMW and maybe HTML not racing in the ETCC after all, it still looks like it will be a good field of 20 cars or more.

If Honda,Volvo,Nissan and VAG have the same commitment in 2003 that BMW and Alfa do this year the ETCC should be even better next season.

As an Alfa owner I guess I am more interested in the ETCC. The field for the BTCC is looking pretty good though and I will follow it as well.

Never mind Honda! What about Tarquini? He's a star, and I hope he finds a competitive seat somewhere else.

What about a third BTC Honda for Tarquini?

JAS said that they had already produced some parts for the Super 2000 spec Civic. With any luck JAS could do a Prodrive and run them privatly. The field still looks pretty good.

I would be surprised to see Tarquini in the BTCC. He will probably just join another factory Honda team somewhere in Europe, Sweden perhaps, if nothing comes along in ETCC.

I agree with you racer69. We will see GT on the grid in one JAS Civic. But it will be the only one. If that does not happen, Honda will send him to Sweden (bring back Hubert Bergh!)

He may end up in the BTCC if the title is a close race at the end.

Overall, I can see Honda using '02 to prepare a massive effort in 2003 with the Accord.
