smokystove should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
£15.000 for a Giulia Sprint with papers...

I thought Mr. Drabble must be facing some severe hardship or had lost his mind until I realized the initial post is from 2002!

(Top Hat reference should have clued me in)

I have for sale, a fully restored 1952 racing special with a 4.250cc Mercury engine as raced by Joe Quinn in the Ulster TT against the Ecurie Ecosse.

It is for sale at about 30% of the cost of purchase and restoration.

Yes, though I never did start racing with the Historic boys, I went to one of their meetings at Silverstone and found the paddock dominated by huge artics and caravans, very unfriendly and off putting to a potential racer.

Nobody had the time or inclination to speak to or encourage a stranger.

What a pity.

You must have chosen the wrong meeting as I don't recognise your description as representative of the normal historic meetings that I get to.

Was it the Silverstone Classic by any chance?

I think you've been to entirely the wrong sort of 'historic' meeting. Try an HSCC event.

Sorry to read that and have to concur with previous posters! One of the main reasons why I got involved with historics in first place was because everyone was so friendly and helpful! Give us another chance, please.......
