I always liked the 1994 Pacific and Simtek.
1991 and 1994 Jordan and 1994 - 1997 Williams cars as well. I know it was only in 1 race but the 1997 Lola was quite nice. Andrew Last edited by Andyc; 27 Jan 2017 at 02:28. |

Though about favourite liveries but liveries none the less and someone may even like these ones, I've always been intrigued by this. F1 teams, unlike IndyCar, have to use a uniform livery. However, in 1984 Tyrrell used different liveries on both cars. For example:
Martin Brundle Stefan Bellof Stefan Johansson Does anyone know why a uniform livery is used and when it became a rule? |

Looking back at the history books, you saw above that the rule wasn't there in 1984 but we know it was there in 1999 when BAR had their infamous 'zip' livery.
At the 1986 Portugese GP, McLaren ran two different liveries - the normal red & white Marlboro on one car, but yellow & white on Rosberg's to advertise Marlboro Lights. There are lots of photos of this So, some time between 1986 and 1999... |

Hrm. I can't find the sporting regs from before 2001, which is a bit of a pain.
Anyway, if I recall correctly the livery regs were put in by Bernie/FOM to make the cars more easily identifiable and give the F1 and teams 'brands' some marketing stability. There's obviously no real technical reason for it; it's a purely visual one. |

I'm quite happy to be in a minority of 1 for this, but (with thanks & acknowledgement to Motorsport for the photo) this has always been one of my favourites, and the team stickers were of the highest quality.

I always found it quite extraordinary that a governing body would not only think that liveries were their concern but also that it actually legislated on them . Utterly daft - unless it doesn't feature men in pointy hats with KKK logoes (maybe big in NASCAR ) or the like then who cares - and why ?

Arrows A2 Doodlebug in Warsteiner colours, mostly because it's the maddest looking F1 car of its time. If I could find one for sale, I'd buy it!
Copersucar Fittipaldi in any version you care to name. Mostly out of a sense of nostalgia for my all-time hero, but genuinely lovely-looking. |
