I belive the 405s originally ran in the BTCC in 1994 and have been in Australia since about 1996.

G'day Wishbone, Justin Wade bought one of the 405s a couple of years ago, there have been several previous owners.

Who were the main sponsors in 1996? Was the car ever competitive? For some reason I though JR was in it with burger king signage, but I have a feeling that was another car (primera?????)... or maybe I'm altogether wrong...

Mr Bewley made his name pushing the dead 405 over the line at Bathurst, after it conked out.... got front pages across the country for the effort... if not an official finish... I believe he still works for Fastway as a Business Development Manager.... |

Dwayne or Tony?
I believe that Tony was a "founding father" or certainly a very early member of the Fastway team. Dwayne, well, he is back home being Mr. Nice Guy just how he was before his foray into Australia. |

Dwayne...
There is more to the story of the Pug 405s and 406s than meets the eye... so we might have to leave it there... |

These cars were always battling for best of the rest honours and couldn't get on the pace with the factory boys. The cars moved to the Starion/Fastway Couriers Peugeot Team in 1997 and perfromed pretty well. One interesting piece of trivia is that, Fastway Couriers 405 qualified in a quicker time at Bathurst in 1997, than that of what they achieved a year later in the 406. JR drove for Ross Palmer Motorsports in a Ford Mondeo in a Burger King/Hungry Jacks livery, however this was in 1995. Last edited by D.R.T.; 14 Mar 2005 at 10:29. |

You're right about Grim's cars being 406's. I think he sold them late last year though.

Kevin Schwantz also raced a Foxtel 405 (a '95 spec car used by Geoff Full at round 1 at Amaroo Park) at the Gold Coast support races that year (1996).

Didn't Russel Ingall race the foxtel Peugeot 405 for a season?

Ingall raced one of the ex-RML Cavaliers in Foxtel signage. This was the car Brooke Tatnel had tried to venture into Super Touring with in an experiment that ended faily quickly. I think that was the James Thompson car which went on to become Bob Tweedie's spare car and was later sold to Vauxhall collector Rod Jones.

Yes, i think Rod Jones has/had the full collection of 'Cavaliers' raced in Australia.
He purchased both the '95-spec cars (the one's driven by Tatnell/Ingall and Jim Richards in 1996), along with the red and yellow one he had driven with Andy Lloyd at Bathurst in 1997 and 1998 (ex-Graham Moore 1995?), plus he purchased the John Henderson car used by John in 1997 and 1998. When Ingall ran the Foxtel Cavalier, it replaced the #95 Foxtel Peugeot, leaving Geoff Full out of a drive in the last 2 rounds of the 1996 ASTC |

The first two cars were imported into Australia in mid-1994 for the Bathurst 1000 and arriving in time for the final round of the Two Litre series.
These 1993 BTCC cars were bought by Mike Quinn and Darrell Dixon. Dixon's car was damaged extensively at Bathurst after the chassis was stretched being pulled from a sand trap. The car went to Mike Imrie at one point and Ian Spurle and later a guy called Roggenkamp. The Quinn car (1993 Robb Gravett) went on to become Mark Adderton's ASTC 1995 weapon. If memory serves it was this car that was involved in the accident with Gregg Hansford at Phillip Island that led to his death. This car later went to Mike Fitzgerald and was involved in another big hit at Amaroo involving Brad Jones and was later rebuilt again. Quinn later improrted both 1994 BTCC Peugeot 405s with Adderton driving the ex-Eugene O'Brien car and Geoff Full from mid-year drove the ex-Patrick Watts car. I think these two cars were sold to South East Asia. Quinn again imported the 1995 BTCC 405s for Full and Adderton to drive in 1996. These cars were sold to Fastway Couriers owner, Kiwi Tony Newman. Newman drove the Watts car, Dwayne Bewley the Simon Harrison car. |

So are these 1995 cars the ones that are remaining in Australia driving in the Touring Car Challenge? Or are we stuck with the old 93 cars?

sorry... old and older...
I believe the 95 cars were a lot more successful than both the 94 and 93 cars, and therefore could have more historical significance... |

There is but one Pug405 in the ATCC at the moment... it is a 1993 spec privateer-built car, brought to Australia by Darryl Dixon....
It doesnt have a sequential box either... |

And possibly the least significant history of any other the Aust Pugs. That car has not had a hppy life. Its never had a lot of money spent on it, and around 6 years ago I remember it being advertised for aroun $30k to buy.
