Slot Cars!

Hey people. We haven't had a thread about slot car racing in a while, so I thought I'd start a new one What cars do we all have? I have:

Stewart Ford (no 19, Jos Verstappen '98)
McLaren Mercedes (no 10, D.Coulthard '97)
McLaren Mercedes (no 7, M. Hakkinen '95)
Jordan Mugen Honda (no 9, D. Hill '98)
Ferrari (no 1, M. Schumacher '96)
Benetton Renault (no 2, J.Herbert '95)

I don't just have F1 cars though

BMW 3 Series "AutoSport" ('95 BTCC?)
Ford Mondeo "Vavoline" ('95 BTCC?)
Ferrari F40 (Dark blue, came free with scalextric club)

I'm saving up for a CD writer and IRL Indycar Series for the PS2 at the mo, so no new cars for a lil while but I have my eye on a few, like the "Spirit of America" Panoz by Fly and a Kimi Raikkonen McLaren my Ninco. Scalextic are doing a few IRL cars too, can't wait to see what they look like.

Over to you then

When we put a floor up in the loft, i'm gonna have a super layout up there. I've got tons of track (and i'll be getting more) and cars, and trackside accessories too.

My cars are (if i can remeber them all)

Joest Opel Calibra ITC x2
Rosberg Racing Opel Calibra
Mercedes CLK-GTR '98
Mazda 787b
Peugeot 406 Coupé BTCC
Volvo 850 BTCC
Jaguar XJR-9LM
Lamborghini Diablo
Jordan 198
McLaren MP4/10 ('97 livery)
A couple of fantasy F1 cars.
erm, that's it i think

Then there's my dad's cars too.
Javelin sportscar (fantasy)
Electra sportscar (fantasy)
Mini Cooper S FWD
Porsche F1 '62
BRM P?? (the one from '62)

Good stuff there P. I have a very limited supply of track...a figure of eight and an oval is all I can do Still, the oval will do when Scalex release these IRL cars

That's 8 years worth. Plus 40-odd with my dad's stuff (most of the track is his)
I had a 13m long layout once, i had a 6ft x 4tf chipboard table in my room, and another for my brothers Train set. Then we combined the two.
But the 13m layout was really good fun, i got my best time there down to 5.2s! (Yes, i have a digital lap counter too)

'fraid not, although they do look very nice. The "Spirit of America" Panoz is on my shopping list though, the Vipers looks pretty ace as well.

Evil Fuzzy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lets see, which cars...

Firstly, my dads:
-1962 Ferrari 156 "Sharknose" F1
-1962 Lotus 61 F1
-1964 Ferrari 250 GT with lights
-1964 Aston Martin DB4GT with lights
all Scalextrics of course.

Then mine:
-SCX Toyota Celica GT-Four
-Scalextric Ferrari 643 F1
-Scalextric Benetton Renault F1
-Scalextric Ferrari 330 P4
-Scalextric Porsche 962
-Scalextric Porsche 962 (yes, another one)
-Scalextric Sauber Mercedes C11 AEG
-Scalextric Jaguar XJ220C Endurance (modified by myself to represent the 1993 Le Mans car somewhat more)
-Scalextric Protec Audi A4 Btcc (quite fast one with the metal chassis, the aluminium wheels etc.)
-Scalextric Jordan Peugeot 197 F1 (limited edition)
-Scalextric Williams Supertec FW20 F1 (limited edition)
-Scalextric TVR Speed 12 race version
-Ninco Mercedes CLK-GTR nr. 10
-Ninco Callaway Corvette C12R Le mans 2001
-Ninco BMW LM V12 nr.1 Le Mans 1998
-Proslot Porsche 911 GT2 Roock Racing Le Mans 1996
-Fly Panoz GTR 1 Daytona 1998
-Fly Joest Porsche Le Mans winner 1996
-Fly Venturi 600LM Le Mans 95
-Fly Chevrolet Corvette C5R ALMS 2001 (with lights, bought it at the price without the lights, because of an error at the shop)
-Fly Classic Porsche 908 "BP" Zeltweg 1969
-Fly Classic Lola T70 MkIIIb Sebring 1969
-Scalextric Sport Ford MkII nr.2 winner Le Mans 1966
-Scalextric Sport Lola MG EX257 Knighthawk Racing Le Mans 2002
and the pride of my collection:
-Top Slot Toyota GT-One TS020 nr. 29 Le Mans 1998 (Top Slot only supply the body and decals, but the cars are made to fit on a chassis by another manufacturer, this car uses a Ninco Mercedes CLK-GTR chassis).

As far as track parts are concerned, I still use my dads from 1962 (the Ferrari and Lotus came with this track) with added 196? Le Mans start. The only new part is the piece which is connected to the Scalextric Protec Power Supply.

The cars highest on my shopping list are Scalextrics very first Le Mans cars: the Lister Jaguar, Jaguar D-Type, Porsche 550 and Aston Martin DBR. Sadly these are very hard to come by.

Ayse, It's a very limited edition. But surly the looks justify the price?

I have very few Scalex cars, only a the Ford Focus WRC, the blue press car, and 3 Audi A4s (German Audi and Audi UK, and the Aussie Orix one).

Did have a Scalex Caterham, but broke it while learning to go fast without accidents...it didn't work!

Not much track, but Ebay will sort that.

I learnt to drive really fast ages ago. I like to take tha magnets off and watch 'em slide! Even with the magnet i can "powerslide" the cars round longer bends.

Me bloody digital camera broke (it was a really cheap pile of c**p), so i can't take photos.

A Question for everybody: Who do you race against?

I race against a Scalextrics "computer player" sort of thing. There's a half straight, with a box attached to it, which you also plug your controllers and power supply to, and you program a lap from lane 1 into it, and then you put your car on lane 2, and another car on lane 1, and press go, and you get a flashing lights sequence, and then the car in lane one drives off on it's own, and repeats the best of the laps you programed in earlier, until it does 99 laps, or you switch it off, and so you are literally racing your own best lap. It's really cool.

Oh that reminds me, I saw this other one....you get this pace car right, and it goes around your track and actually works out the fastest way around! Then you can put any car in that lane and race it...sounds pretty cool, dead expensive though :S

Our club runs Strombecker, which has been out of business for some time. Track is quite available on ebay, so that's not really an issue. We're still running Strombecker cars, but heavily modded. We take the original chassis and motor, rip the shell off, cut it down to fashion a mounting bracket, and then buy lightweight lexan shells that we do up ourselves.

They can look pretty battered, as we race them.

I must addmit I have loads of track in the loft and I have not set it up for years. In fact I am not sure of the contllors and cars work either.

But I had a go on this weekend at Brands Hatch, might have to dig it out and give it another go.........
