Audi S2 Sedan Competition - ITC mid 90s

Anyone know more about this car? I was told its an Audi S2 Sedan Competition that was built for racing in ITC in 95-96 somewhere but never made it to the track. So my question is, anyone know more about this car? What year was it supposed to race? Why didnt it race? How many cars where built? Anyone ever heard about this one before?

Unsure if it belongs in here or in Motorsport History, but feel free to move it wherever it belongs.

I've found out that this is the Audi 80 Quattro that Audi was developing for the 1993 season but stoped the projekt after pulling out of DTM in mid season 1992 due to different reasons. I still dont know how many of those cars where made tho. Looking back at 93 it could have been a great season for DTM, the new BMW E36 was a stunning looking car too, too bad it was really slow and only really famous for crashing at AVUS...

So that would have been intended as the replacement for the big V8 Quattro in DTM,... http://www.zandbak.net/classic/92dtm/003.jpg
....if Audi hadn't walked out- mid-season I think?- in 92 due to the row over them using an allegedly illegally-modified crankshaft.

As I remember, those early E36 M3s in DTM were very much privateer efforts (by Linder amongst others)

Ah, where you the one asking for it at rejsa.nu? Great to get some info on it.

The Linder E36 was in orange Jägermeister livery, but who ran the white DHL-sponsored car?

I probably am totally off, but weren't they the same race chassis, but just sold to a different team the next year who then did had their own sponsor? The car was privately developed if I recall correctly?

Yes, I watched an old german capture of DTM '93 and they said that the car was developed in the UK. Linder had one car in '93 (the only E36) and also one car in '94 (likely the same). The team WS-DHL ran another E36 (the white DHL one then).

Sorry for going off-topic here. Can't find anything on the Audi since it didn't race

Wasn't the BMW E36 developed by West Surrey Racing?

The Audi was a former DTM Prototyp from 1992 for the 1993 season, but Audi get out of the DTM so the Car never drive a race.
The basis is an Audi 80 B4 (Typ 8C), the Engine was similiar spec like the Alfa 155 motor. 2500 ccm V6 based on the new Class 1 Regulations für 1993, while Mercedes was still using the 4Zylinder, but there is no information about the power and torque.

The '93 Alfa Engine had 415 hp @ 11500 RPM and 294 Nm @ 8600 RPM while the old Class 2 tuned AMG Mercedes 190 E had 370 hp @ 9500 RPM and 300 Nm @ 7500 RPM.

The BMW E36 was a total privat projekt from Linder Motorsports. They asked BMW to supporting the Team to design a Class 1 Car but that wasn't the will from the Bavarian Company.
Linder took a 323 Engine, lifted the cubic capacity to 2500 ccm and optimized everything and bring out ~400 HP @ 10 800 RPM.

Finally the project was to expensiv for the little Motorsport Team.

Drivers @ Linder
1993: Armin Hahne, Frank Stippler
1994: Frank Stippler, Harald Becker (not all Races)

The WS-DHL Team was racing the E36 only in 1994. The car hadn't anythong to do with the linder BMW from 1993 and 1994. The Engine had 20 HP less and "only" 10 000 RPM. The Bodykit was a littlebit different, too.

Thanks a lot,10tacle! It's rather difficult to dig up something about German championship as to compare with British. For example,I didn't know,there was a Class1 Audi.
And answer my stupid question,please.Was that 'Class1/2 divisions' FIA or ADAC classification?Thanks!

Thanks for the info. The 2nd of those Class1 Audis is in Sweden and being prepped for racing in the Nordic Supercar this season, hope they will make it out there.

Hehe, no. Tentacle ist my Nick in the web since 1999, during the years i changed it into Leatspeak. I was one of this Counterstrike Kiddies when i was young

@helgi
Class 1 was/is an official FIA classification for racing world wide. But the specification is crazy like hell and too expensive. The Electronic Stuff was complicated like the Space Shuttle, programed dynamic suspensions and differential, electric open coolers in curves an close on straights, flexible weight in the cars and stuff like this.
A funny but real anecdote, to start the Opel Calibra V6 from 1996 they needed 17 mechanics

I think the Class 2 is nearly the same like the old FIA Group A

@PorscheFanNo1
That sounds interesting

IMO those '93 class one cars are the best of the bunch, restrained Group A looks/technology(ish), but a little more flair.
