British GP - To Camp or Not?

I've been lucky enough to be invited to the British GP this year, but being Northampton based, my own bed within a brick house seems a much more attractive proposition than an air bed under canvas!

I understand from the forums that a lot of what makes the British GP is the atmosphere in the marshal's campsite. At the moment, I am not ruling out camping, however, I can't find much about the practicalities of traveling into the circuit each day as a marshal.

From previous years, does anyone have any experience of how long it takes to get to Silverstone from the M1 each morning & what the arrival times have been in the past and whether it's early enough to beat the spectator traffic?

I've driven in from Milton Keynes each day for many years and not experienced any problems, just aim to get in early.

I've attended two of the last 3 years and driven in every morning from the M1 direction. I've aimed to be on site by 6:00am, (6:30 for Friday) before the road is closed, and have had no problems at all - in fact the traffic on the A43 is mostly lighter than normal as people avoid the area altogether over that weekend. Getting out at the end of the event is an entirely different matter, however.......

ask for a camping plot on your form. I tended to put the tent up on Wednesday and get basic kit into it. I then had the option at any time to stick around for some social, or crash if I didn't fancy the drive (or delay in getting out) any evening. Also good for a nap if you drive in early and have an hour to kill

Daily driver parking is on the level ground just above / beside the campsite
