SPECTATORSAL should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Charity Weekend at Snetterton 2004

Hello!

Anyone know if this event is going ahead again in 2004? Really, really hope so...the last two were absolutely brilliant (despite heavy rain nearly all day when we went along in 2003)! That Colin Stancombe in his Clio is MAD-highly recommended though!! I'm also hoping that Alfa racer Paul Lund will be there too-lovely bloke & lovely yellow Alfa (I'm a woman-OK!!)...Fingers crossed!!

I don't think it is going to happen this year. The last I heard there was an issue over insurance and also Mr Palmer would rather hire the track that weekend rather than let a charity use it. I think we can use it if he can't hire it out but how can you advertise an event when it's not definate that you have somewhere to hold it!!
It's likely take a break for this season but hopefully be back with a vengence next year.

But if thats the case why give JP the cudos of holding the event at a MSV circuit, whats wrong with one of Silverstone,s circuits, or Donnington.

If I'm not mistaken this event has run for over 25 years ?, surely one of the circuit owners would help.

From what I have heard from the rescue crew chief, insurance is as much a problem as circuit availability. The cost is going through the roof.

oh what a load of ******.

Right MR Palmer - this is a charity do - that means you be charitable as well not just grab every last penny you can.
The teams do it for free and we pay and it's not exactly cheap but it's for a good cause. So why can't you?

Pathetic - ruddy pathetic.

I feel a letter to my local rag coming on....

Hopeful e-mail but I think you will find that if he can hire out the circiut for the whole/part weekend the charity weekend will not go ahead. The end of October doesn't give much time for orgainsing adverts/cars etc. We will see.

Surely someone can get an insurance company to "sponsor" the event too??

IF I ever get my car back together, I'd like to bring it along and offer my support, but that's a big IF at the moment.

Rob.

well I emailed the local rag but I haven't heard anything. As for the insurance sponsorship - well come on Norwich Union - you are just up the road!!

I work at NU. They have a corporate sponsorship dept but don't think you'll have much joy though as it's not a confirmed event. I'll try and investigate for you though.

In view of today's news re NU :

Anger as finance jobs move offshore
2004-09-22 16:42:34

Norwich Union is to axe 150 jobs in Norwich and York as part of a move to send work to India and Sri Lanka.
Its owner, Aviva, has already moved 3,700 mainly administrative jobs to India and plans 3,300 more between now and the end of 2007. Around 950 jobs will move next year, with the bulk moving to India and 190 to Sri Lanka, two countries where average pay is no more than 40 per cent of that in the UK. Union leaders here have attacked the plan, with Amicus saying it is furious.
When asked whether Aviva staff would strike, a spokesman said the union would support them in any action they decided to take. He said: "The worst of it is that they have finally shown their hand in terms of their full offshoring programme. It's a quick, short-term profit regime that doesn't stand the business in good stead or our members in good stead for long-term employment." A spokeswoman for Aviva said it was too early to say how many compulsory redundancies in Britain would result from its offshoring moves in 2006 and 2007. Gary Withers, Norwich Union Life's chief executive, said: "Expanding our offshore operations will give us the increased capacity we need. "We expect to conclude our offshoring plans by the end of 2007, by which time we anticipate that we will have up to 7,000 roles offshore servicing our existing UK businesses.
"We recognise that this is a period of great uncertainty and will do everything we can to support staff during this time and ensure that they are kept fully informed throughout the process."

Perhaps we should ask another insurer now then? Sorry you guys who work for NU by the way (if it's any consolation I used to work for Arthur Andersen!!)....

well have heard this is definately not taking place now, which is a big shame to say the least. Does a lot of good for the two charities and anything that gets people interested in the sport and then come along the following season to watch is always good.

Prehaps there will be a last minute change of plan, but at this stage prob too late to organise. Live in hope I am wrong and is taking place but will be suprised

Pity about the BHF day at Snet being called off, but the Stroke Association Day at Castle Coombe is going ahead on Oct 23rd.

Sounds good Paul (although it might be a tad too far for me to get to!). What can we expect to see out on track?
