Could Motorsport Events Be Cancelled?

According to a report from the BBC, the Government are considering the possibility of cancelling Sporting Events in a bit to reduce the demand for fuel should the proposed protests go ahead.

It mentions Wimbledon specifically, but is there a chance that the GP may suffer too?

Well I suppose it would be one more excuse for Bernie to drop the GP and award it to another country with government backing and a new track.

You mean club events?

Under what authority would the government cancel an event? I'd assume all the necessary paperwork/permits/permissions would already have been granted. Does the government or local authority have the power to revoke them?

In a possible situation like this then I think the answer would be yes!

Of course they could.
At £1.12 per litre, they will not need stopping, they will fade away.

Introduce petrol rationing and no one will be able to get to the circuits

Have you seen the price of petrol at circuit forecourts. The £1.12 per litre is pretty much what they are charging now.......

Taking into account the distance that the majority competitors / marshals travel to each meeting, i would expect that meetings would be cancelled due to lack of competitors and marshals rather than government interferance.

Good job price of crude dropped worldwide today then and Brent is $3 cheaper than most places in the world so it not go up much if anything. It just speculation and fear not reality. Shame some people in media love panick. Yes there is an issue but it not going to jump that much. I doubt events will get cancelled, maybe you be down the John George Garage running off with his LPG!

We live on an island floating on the bloody stuff. Tell OPEC to stick their oil, commandeer what's ours for us, stop the Government being greedy, and we can have realistically priced fuel for years to come.

I think they told us it's the wrong type of oil for what we need so they have to export it.

The combustion engine can run on all sorts of fuels with a bit of tweaking.

I think if the fuel protests did cause a problem in the future the goverment would call a halt to motorsport.
This did happen once before in the early seventies when petrol rationing was in force,

If you have a Diesel engine, you can run your car on vegatable oil burnished with a tot of white spirit (or meths).

(True, not a wind up)

Blackcrow,If i remember it right, during the fuel crisis in the 70's the powers that be introduced caravan racing! So if it's brought back, you're half way to being on the grid. Just get a towbar fitted to your hairdressers car and you've got the full set.

That might be true grumpy, but i'm too young to remember the 70s.

I hear you've been modelling for Grecian 2000 again. Are you before or after?

Cirtainly will old boy. However, the caravan dealers tell me that Stannah Stairlifts don't do a model for caravans yet, so you'll have drink it in the awning.
