Strikes me that if the organisers are trying to run a World Touring Car championship then we might see a few more Japanese manufacturers...
The JAS Hondas have been so unsuccesful they clearly have no factory backing. I see the Toyota rumour above but I think their focus is NASCAR for now. Anyone heard rumours of anyone else testing appropriate cars we don't currently have on the list? Cheers Rick |

Great list FIRE - makes it easier to keep track of the status.
One note though: You can update Crawford Racing and remove Göransson and Edman. Edman was confirmed at Peugeot in the DTC about a week ago and Göransson was confirmed at BMW in STCC (to defend his 2004 title) just the other day. Speaking of Göransson, he would deserve something better than an independent backmarker-team if he were to go to the WTCC at some point in the future - IMHO, of course Rustad, on the other hand, could certainly end up in the WTCC - Team Opel Sweden and Rustad haven't announced their plans for 2005 yet. Aiello has signed for another year in DTM, so he will not be driving the Chevrolet.

There are a few more rumours I discovered:
Schnitzer: maybe Andy Priaulx will move to Schnitzer, with BMW GB support, as third driver; RBM: without Priaulx, Mampaey's team could run Kurt Mollekens under the BMW Belgium Luxembourg banner for the entire season Ravaglia: also BMW Italy Spain could start next season with a three car team, wih Garcia, Zanardi and a third driver, maybe Luca Rangoni Schubert: There are interests from the team which is looking for the budget; drivers Claudia Hürtgen and Thomas Winkelhock, running for the Indy Cup Weichers: like Schubert, they could be in WTCC with Marc Hennerici, in the Indy Cup Dynamics: they could move to WTCC with Matt Neal ALFA ROMEO Autodelta: they will line up Tarquini and Thompson... Giovanardi is linked with Maserati Satellite Team or Autodelta: the will run other two cars, one for Farfus and another one for a young driver, maybe Tavano. Indipendent: there could be some team (from 147 cup) with old cars (either GTA and TS); maybe Sebastian Grunert as driver. No news about Oregon. SEAT GR Asia: there is a possibility that they will run old Toledos in the Indy Cup SEAT Italia: they are interested into Italian Superturismo Championship, if it really happened. CHEVROLET RML: Alain Menu confirmed, and two seats available.. names are Larini, Dumbreck, Aiello and also Plato & Huff HONDA JAS: Alessandro Balzan is gone, the only name is Romanini, but there could be 2 or 3 Accords on the grid FORD Hotfiel: they will run 2 new Focus, drivers among Klenke, Asch, Bernhardt and Funke PEUGEOT Statoil: Magnussen and another driver for the Danish Team with the 407 and maybe another team with two 407; possibility of some 307s running in the Indy trophy |

KSO is also planning an Eurocup, with a single race format like the old World Cup, in Brno, for drivers with S2000 cars from all national championship

Would be great to see Mollekens back, but I am afraid he hasn't enough budget. Quote:

I assume for endurance racing, the works teams would use a special version of their engines, like they did with ST back in the late 90s?

With Chevrolet racing the Nubira, the car is just perfect for an American audience, but sadly, no NA race dates have been announced? I wonder if the '06 DTM effort was sacrificed for the WTCC effort.

The Chevrolet Nubria isn't being sold as a Chevrolet in the US. I think it's being sold as a Suzuki and isn't that popular while it is popular in Mexico where we do have a round...
